On May 15, Economic & Urban Newspaper organized a workshop on "Application of artificial intelligence in smart editorial management". Sharing at the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, Editor-in-Chief of Economic & Urban Newspaper affirmed that digital transformation of journalism has become an inevitable trend in all press agencies. In the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution and current information competition, good content is not enough, but it is necessary to create new experiences for readers through digital technology applications.
“Digital transformation of journalism has become an inevitable trend in all press agencies. The essence of digital transformation journalism is the application of increasingly modern technology to press activities, making the digital press ecosystem enriched with new and superior features, improving the quality and efficiency of communication. However, digital transformation of journalism is a new activity and is also quite difficult to organize and implement, because in the process of operating, press agencies have to depend heavily on technology as well as new human resources. However, in the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution and current competitive information, good content is not enough, but it is necessary to create new experiences for readers through digital technology applications,” said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi.
It is clear that AI is increasingly asserting its role as one of the core, fundamental technologies in the digital age. Not only limited to areas such as industrial production, healthcare, education or transportation, AI has been opening up outstanding possibilities in the fields of media and journalism.
Many developed countries in the world have soon applied AI to newsroom management, automating content production processes, analyzing reader data, supporting editorial decision making, and even creating the first articles entirely generated by machine learning.
Speaking at this workshop, Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, emphasized that the newsroom is no longer a fixed physical space, but has become a flexible digital platform, where every step in the journalism process - from collecting, processing, producing to distributing content - is digitized, automated and optimized thanks to modern technologies such as AI, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, IoT.
Many developed countries in the world have used AI in managing automated facilities in content production, analyzing reader data, supporting editorial decisions, and even creating the first articles entirely generated by machines. AI does not replace humans, but supports journalists to work faster, more accurately, more deeply, and closer to readers.
"In addition to applying technology, we also need to pay attention to professional ethics in the digital age. Technology is a tool, but it is humans who decide how to operate, control and orient AI to serve the interests of society and the community," said Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi.

From a technology perspective, Mr. Le Anh Van, Director of VNPT AI platform, said that the simplest applications such as tape-tracing can free up a lot of time for each reporter. AI can support spelling and grammar checking and style suggestions for newsrooms.
Currently, 21% of publishers have embraced AI to support SEO keyword research. Many newspapers have used automatic translation in many languages around the world to increase readership and find new customer segments.
“The converged newsroom model combined with AI will create a smart newsroom model. Many newsrooms have used virtual MCs to produce content and reduce costs. In addition, AI also provides data to the newsroom such as traffic and reader analysis so that the newsroom can make decisions based on data. All user behavior will be analyzed and statistically analyzed by AI to understand customers best. However, to apply effectively, newsrooms need to apply AI in a synchronous and consistent manner,” said Mr. Le Anh Van.
