This trend shows that digital commerce is rapidly changing the shopping and payment behavior of Vietnamese people.
A recent survey of 1,000 Vietnamese consumers in the Visa Consumer 360 study revealed that 57% of respondents are willing to let AI participate in their online shopping process, higher than the Asia-Pacific average of 50%.
According to Visa, consumers are increasingly open to using AI to search for information, compare products, and assist in purchasing decisions. This is one of the signs that new technologies are gradually becoming a part of the daily consumer experience.
Besides AI, cross-border payments have also seen a high level of adoption in Vietnam. Surveys show that 56% of consumers own multi-currency cards and 34% have used them, higher than the regional averages of 52% and 28%, respectively.
According to Visa, this reflects the growing demand for international transactions, from online shopping to travel and spending abroad. Across the Asia-Pacific region, credit cards have now surpassed cash as the most commonly used payment method for international travel.
Ms. Dang Tuyet Dung, Director of Visa Vietnam and Laos, believes that the level of optimism among Vietnamese consumers is among the highest in the region, reflecting the momentum of the digital economy and the strong digital transformation process currently underway.
However, despite growing interest in AI, consumers continue to express concerns about personal data security, information accuracy, and the risk of unauthorized transactions. This highlights the need for secure payment and transaction platforms, which remain crucial for maintaining user trust.
According to Visa, as consumers become increasingly familiar with digital tools, barriers to AI-powered shopping and cross-border payments are gradually narrowing, providing further impetus for the growth of digital commerce in Vietnam.
