Because their home stadium, Amsterdam Arena, had to make way for a concert series by singer Harry Styles, Ajax had to host Utrecht at the Kras Stadion. This stadium is quite small, with a capacity of only 6,900 seats, and is located about 13 km from Ajax's home stadium.
Utrecht – who have won all three of their most recent encounters with Ajax – had the first dangerous opportunity. However, Ajax quickly regained control of the game. They almost took an early lead when Mokio's powerful shot hit the crossbar.

The courage to fight back in a dramatic penalty shootout for a Conference League spot.
After two goalless halves, the two teams went into extra time. The deadlock was finally broken in the 6th minute of the first extra time period. Following a tricky free kick from Mika Godts, captain Davy Klaassen positioned himself intelligently to score, giving Ajax a 1-0 lead.
However, Amsterdam's joy was short-lived. At the beginning of the second half of extra time, Utrecht unexpectedly equalized. Zechiel – a player currently on loan to Utrecht from Feyenoord – shone at the right moment to level the score at 1-1.

Utrecht equalized shortly afterwards.
The score remained unchanged until the end of 120 minutes, forcing the two teams into a tense penalty shootout. From the penalty spot, Ajax showed more composure and ultimately won 4-3. This hard-fought but well-deserved victory officially secured Ajax's place in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers for next season.
