Faced with the complicated situation of traffic accidents among school-age children, authorities believe that the main cause is due to students violating regulations on ensuring traffic order and safety. According to statistics from the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, in the first 5 months of 2025, the province had 108 traffic accidents, killing 56 people and injuring 75 others; of which, accidents involving teenagers and students accounted for a significant proportion.
Although all three criteria (number of cases, number of deaths, number of injuries) have decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2024, traffic accidents among teenagers and students are still complicated, especially during the summer vacation - when they tend to participate in traffic more. According to the authorities, the key solution at present is still to raise awareness and self-consciousness in complying with traffic safety regulations from the students themselves.
At the Provincial Center for Vocational Guidance and Continuing Education, before the summer vacation, the school proactively increased the dissemination of traffic safety laws to students. Through coordination with the Traffic Police Department, traffic safety regulations and safe traffic participation skills were vividly integrated into extracurricular activities. Notably, the school's students creatively created short skits with traffic safety propaganda content to compete among grades. In recent years, traffic safety education for students has been focused on and regularly implemented by relevant agencies and schools. However, in reality, during the summer vacation, traffic safety violations by students will continue to be quite complicated, and the risk of traffic accidents is always latent; in addition to students' lack of traffic skills, part of the reason is also due to lack of management by schools and families.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Tung, Head of the Traffic Safety Investigation, Dispute Resolution and Violation Handling Team, Traffic Police Department of Quang Ninh Province, said: Guiding students to learn about traffic safety laws, supporting them to be creative, express them through dramatization, and disseminate them to relatives and friends; and turning students into active propagandists in the community is being implemented at schools, which is expected to improve the effectiveness of propaganda on ensuring traffic safety in the community.
The Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police, in coordination with the Youth Union of Tien Yen district, organized a training course on drowning prevention skills for students in Dong Ngu commune, Tien Yen district.
Currently, the whole province has nearly 359,000 students. During the summer vacation, they do not have to go to school, so they will have more time to participate in recreational activities. In addition to ensuring traffic safety, preventing accidents, injuries, and drowning among teenagers and students is always a particularly important issue that needs to be implemented during the summer. The incident of 7 teenagers and students being swept away by floodwaters on the afternoon of May 21 in Hai Ha district continues to ring the alarm bell about the risk of drowning during the summer. Therefore, in addition to coordinating and organizing swimming classes and organizing summer entertainment venues for teenagers, it is also necessary to manage and educate children to stay away from the risks of accidents, injuries, and drowning from their families and schools.
Responding to the 2025 Action Month for Children and the Prime Minister 's instructions, the Quang Ninh Provincial Summer Activities Steering Committee has issued a plan to implement many practical activities: From organizing swimming classes, strengthening communication on accident prevention, drowning, and injury; to building playgrounds, organizing summer activities in residential areas, propagating traffic laws through dramatization models... In particular, the plan requires 100% of localities to organize at least one propaganda activity on traffic safety, drowning prevention, child abuse, and 100% of households to sign a commitment to manage their children during the summer.
