Prime Minister: Long Thanh Airport must welcome its first flight by the end of 2025

On the afternoon of August 2, inspecting and urging the implementation of the Long Thanh International Airport Project (Dong Nai), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed to continue promoting the construction of the project as well as connecting traffic routes and related projects so that Long Thanh airport can welcome the first flight on December 19, 2025 and begin commercial operations in early 2026.

During the 8th site inspection of the Long Thanh International Airport project, the Prime Minister expressed his joy at the bustling working atmosphere at the construction site; praised the efforts of the Ministry of Construction , Vietnam Airports Corporation and the spirit of "overcoming the sun and rain" of the team of engineers and workers who are sticking to the construction to accelerate the progress of many main items; the current overall progress has basically made up for the previous slow progress.

The Long Thanh International Airport construction investment project phase 1 has a total investment of more than 109,000 billion VND, equivalent to more than 4.6 billion USD; including 4 component projects; implementation period from 2020 to 2026. Of which, Component Project 1 - State management agency headquarters buildings are being implemented simultaneously, completing the rough part and will be basically completed in December 2025.

Component 2 project - Works serving flight management are also on schedule, in which the Air Traffic Control Tower will be completed in September 2025, auxiliary items and radar systems, navigation stations have been basically completed, flight management equipment packages are in the design survey stage and are expected to be completed between June and December 2025.

Component 3 - Essential works has 14 packages, of which 3 have been completed, 9 are under construction and 2 are selecting contractors. Some main packages are making positive progress such as runway 1, taxiways, and parking lots, which have reached nearly 90%. The construction packages of aircraft parking lots, passenger terminals, underground facilities for ground services, drainage systems, parking area lighting systems, taxiways and other packages are basically on schedule, most of which can be completed in December 2025.

Component project 4 - Other projects are being implemented simultaneously in different stages of implementation, in which the cargo terminal and warehouse project is implementing procedures to select investors in special cases.

Regarding some existing risks of delays in some bidding packages due to lack of materials, site clearance problems, overlapping construction and large volume, the Prime Minister requested the investor to continue to direct resolutely, mobilize maximum human resources and equipment, and thoroughly resolve problems to ensure the overall progress of the entire project.

The routes connecting Long Thanh Airport are being actively promoted. Of which, the route connecting Long Thanh Airport with National Highway 51 has been completed; route No. 2 connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with route No. 1 has reached over 87%. The People's Committee of Dong Nai province has also assigned units to accelerate expansion and upgrading of two existing routes, Ton Duc Thang (25B) and Nguyen Ai Quoc (25C). In addition, the projects of Provincial Road 773, Provincial Road 769, and Provincial Road 770B have been and will be started in 2026.

The Ministry of Construction proposed to speed up the construction of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway and the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet Expressway to connect the West and South Central regions with Long Thanh Airport, in particular, to fundamentally improve traffic connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh International Airport.

Working with ministries, branches, localities, investors, construction contractors, price supervision consultants and related units, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed that after 3 months of inspection and direction by the Prime Minister, the basic difficulties and problems have been resolved, the progress of the Long Thanh International Airport project has been accelerated, making up for the previous slow progress.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the goal remains unchanged: Long Thanh International Airport must be basically completed, receive the first flight on December 19, 2025, and begin commercial operations in early 2026. The Prime Minister noted that there is still a lot of work, all of it difficult, and there is not much time left. Therefore, the relevant subjects must rebuild the progress critical path; organize and assign work with clear people, clear tasks, clear time, clear results, clear authority, and clear responsibility.

The Prime Minister requested relevant entities to take advantage of favorable weather to continue to speed up the implementation progress, with the spirit of "3 shifts, 4 shifts", "overcoming the sun and overcoming the rain", "if the day is not enough, work at night and work on holidays" to complete all 4 component projects at the same time to put them into synchronous operation.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the subjects must organize the work more closely, synchronously, and rhythmically, mobilize more human resources, equipment, and mobilize the total force of main contractors, subcontractors, police forces, and the army to participate in implementing the work that can be done. The Prime Minister directed that in parallel with the progress, it is necessary to closely inspect and supervise to improve quality, ensure labor safety, technology, aesthetics, environmental sanitation, and life and safety for workers.

Along with promoting the construction of Long Thanh International Airport, connecting traffic routes; completing telecommunications, electricity, water infrastructure; trees, environmental landscape; petroleum service areas, trade, food services, etc., the Prime Minister proposed promoting research on the construction of aviation urban areas, aviation industrial zones, free trade zones, and logistics service areas in the Long Thanh International Airport area.

Assigning specific tasks to each ministry, branch and locality, the Prime Minister emphasized that Long Thanh International Airport has an important role and significance in promoting socio-economic development, creating jobs and livelihoods for the people. This is a symbolic project of new development not only for the Southeast region but also for the whole country, at the same time affirming the mettle, confidence in overcoming difficulties, challenges and maturity of all subjects.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested to prepare conditions and plans to effectively manage, operate and exploit Long Thanh International Airport; prepare for acceptance work, and at the same time prepare to deploy the construction of runway number 3 and phase 2 of the Long Thanh International Airport project.

* On the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the working delegation surveyed the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project, Tan Van - Nhon Trach section, including Nhon Trach bridge.

The Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project has a total length of 76.34km, with a total investment of 75,300 billion VND invested by the State budget. The Tan Van - Nhon Trach section, also known as component project 1A, has a length of about 8.22km, of which 6.3km is in Dong Nai and 1.92km is in Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, the Tan Van - Nhon Trach section has completed nearly 98% of its capacity and will be opened to traffic on August 19. Nhon Trach Bridge, a major part of the 1A component project and the largest bridge of Ring Road 3, will also be opened to traffic on the same day.

Giving gifts and encouraging the team of cadres, engineers, workers and laborers at the construction site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the Ministry of Construction, the investor of component project 1A, the My Thuan Project Management Board, and the localities for completing Nhon Trach bridge 1.5 months ahead of schedule, helping to connect Dong Nai with Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to promoting economic development in the Southeast region, reducing travel and logistics costs for people and businesses, and increasing the competitiveness of goods and businesses.
