The Provincial People's Procuracy, in coordination with the Provincial People's Court, recently held a first-instance trial of Nguyen Hong Khanh and his accomplices on charges of "Illegal possession, transportation, and sale of narcotics," "Illegal possession of military weapons," and "Failure to report a crime."

According to the indictment, from approximately January to March 2022, Nguyen Hong Khanh and Ly Dinh Hung purchased drugs from a man named Nguyen Van Phong (whose specific address could not be determined). They rented a house at 05 Vo Thi Sau Street, Ngoc Trao Ward, Bim Son Town, both to live in and to weigh, count, and package the drugs into smaller bags for sale to make a profit. Khanh and Hung hired Pham Van Quang (a taxi driver) to transport the drugs to customers.
At approximately 10:00 AM on April 15, 2022, at house number 05 Vo Thi Sau Street, Ngoc Trao Ward, Bim Son Town, after receiving a box containing ecstasy pills hidden inside a coffee grinder, Nguyen Hong Khanh, along with Ly Dinh Hung, Pham Thai Phuoc, and Luong Xuan Duc, used an electronic scale to weigh and package 7,000 ecstasy pills for sale to customers.
At approximately 3 PM on April 15, 2022, Khanh and Hung continued to receive drugs delivered by Nguyen Van Phong via the Vinh Quang bus station when they were discovered and arrested by the police along with the seized evidence.
The total amount of narcotics seized by the investigating agency from Nguyen Hong Khanh and his accomplices was 21,942.241 grams of MDMA and Amphetamine, and 23.361 grams of Ketamine. In addition, Nguyen Hong Khanh was also found to be in possession of 25 rounds of ammunition, which are military weapons.
Based on the prosecutor's recommendation, the trial panel sentenced Nguyen Hong Khanh, Ly Dinh Hung, and Pham Thai Phuoc to death, and Luong Xuan Duc to life imprisonment for the crime of "Illegal trafficking of narcotics"; Pham Van Quang to 4 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal transportation of narcotics"; Bui Anh Long to 18 months for the crime of "Failure to report a crime" and 18 months for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics", with a combined sentence of 36 months; and Le Nhat Hoang to 27 months for the crime of "Failure to report a crime".
