Modern Book Printing is one of six sculptures in the Walk of Ideas (German: Spaziergang der Ideen ), located on the art street Unter den Linden. According to Wikipedia , the book sculpture is 12.2 m high, consisting of a steel structure with 17 segments of different sizes. They are stacked on top of each other to form a whole, if including the fixed ballast weight, the book sculpture has a total weight of about 35 tons.
Each section of the sculpture is a book, representing a famous person. There are 17 books in total, each with the name of a German poet or writer on its spine. The top book is named after Grass (Günter Grass, 1927 – 2015), the author who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1999; the bottom book is the poet Goethe (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1749 – 1832), who had a great influence on world literature, especially in Europe. Many of his works have inspired other authors in drama, poetry and philosophy, as well as German classical music .
The sculpture was erected in memory of Johannes Gutenberg, who invented the modern printing press in Mainz around 1450 and printed the best-selling book in history, the Gutenberg Bible ( Gutenberg-Bibel ), also known as the 42-line Bible , the Mazarin Bible or simply the B42 .

Sculptures in the Walk of Ideas series
The Modern Book Printing Statue is the fourth sculpture in the Walk of Ideas group – a series of sculptures formed under the motto "A Walk Through German Ideas".
Apart from this statue, the remaining works Der moderne Fußballschuh ( The Modern Football Boot ) manufactured by EDAG GmbH & Co. KGaA in Fulda, represents a special football boot, originating from the development of the Dassler family.
Second, Meilensteine der Medizin ( Pharmaceutical Milestones ), a pill-shaped statue, 10 m in diameter, weighing 25 tons, with a steel base measuring 4.20 m × 4.20 m × 1.00 m. This work symbolizes the groundbreaking pharmaceutical research in Germany.
The third is Das Automobil ( The Car/Automobile ), a car designed by Audi, 10.2 m long, 3.25 m high, 4.5 m wide, weighing more than 10 tons, made of steel, combined with fiberglass and Neopor foam blocks. This sculpture was displayed at the Oriental Plaza shopping mall in Beijing also in 2006.
Next is the Meisterwerke der Musik ( Masterpiece of Music ), which consists of six individual musical notes, including three eighth notes and three quarter notes. Each note is 8.10 m high, 5.4 m long and 2.1 m wide, and weighs approximately 8.6 tons. The work is the most complex in structure of the six sculptures.

Awards and lasting impressions
The Walk of Ideas sculpture series has won many awards, including the prestigious EVA Award of Germany in 2006. Tourists, including Germans, who visited this series during the 2006 FIFA World Cup season, will certainly have an unforgettable impression. Each person has their own perception, but for those who love literature and art, the thing that will surely remain in their minds is the shape of the statue Der moderne Buchdruck ( Modern Book Printing) .
