"Red Rain," a feature film about the revolutionary war, based on the novel of the same name by writer Chu Lai, is set against the backdrop of the 81-day battle at Quang Tri Citadel in the summer of 1972 (from June 28, 1972 to September 16, 1972).
Fifty-three years after that historic event, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel has become a "red address," a sacred destination for educating about patriotic traditions and commemorating the heroic martyrs, attracting domestic and international tourists to learn about Vietnamese history.

The Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, a special national historical site, is located in Quang Tri ward, Quang Tri province, and was built during the Nguyen dynasty.

After the fierce battle of 1972, Quang Tri Citadel was almost completely razed, with only the East Gate remaining relatively intact, along with a few sections of the citadel walls riddled with bomb and bullet marks, and the trench system.

Here, every brick, every inch of land holds a part of the blood and flesh of eighteen- and twenty-year-old soldiers who fell so that the country could rise again.

On either side of the entrance are inscribed lines of poetry, like a message: "Walk softly and speak quietly / So that my comrades may rest peacefully beneath the grass / The sky of Quang Tri is clear and windy / Forever singing the song of immortality." (Pham Dinh Lan)

And also verses full of pride, like a truth, like an inevitable part of history: As long as there is Vietnam, there is the Ancient Citadel / Connecting the fiery wreath with Khe Sanh / Medals are hard to come by for every brick / Every inch of land, every second, every leaf and branch. (Tran Bach Dang)

The Citadel memorial, standing 8.1 meters tall, symbolizes the 81 days and nights of fierce fighting and is shaped like a mass grave, the resting place of the souls of the fallen soldiers.

People from all over the country came to offer incense and flowers to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs at Quang Tri Ancient Citadel.

This is also a must-see destination for international tourists visiting Quang Tri.

"The sky over Quang Tri is clear and breezy."

The Ancient Citadel Museum displays numerous artifacts, images, and historical documents about the 81-day and 81-night battle and the resistance war against the US.

The group of veterans listened to a presentation about the photograph "A Victorious Smile at Quang Tri Citadel in 1972" by war correspondent Doan Cong Tinh.

The statue "The Smile" in the citadel grounds depicts a soldier radiating optimism, viewing death as light as a feather amidst loss and suffering...

The innocent, carefree smiles of today's young sprouts are a testament to their peaceful and free lives.

Quang Tri Ancient Citadel is a symbol of the indomitable spirit and aspiration for peace of the Vietnamese people.
