Apple is offering a series of major deals during the June 18 shopping festival, while most Android phones are increasing in price. This creates a clear competitive advantage for the iPhone in the Chinese market.

This year's mid-year shopping festival in China saw a rare move from Apple, as the company drastically reduced prices across the entire iPhone 17 lineup, even as the Android phone market was experiencing rapid price increases.

According to information from PChome on May 15th, JD.com has officially launched an iPhone discount program, lasting until June 21st. Buyers of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will receive a direct discount voucher of 1,000 yuan ( US$147 ), plus a trade-in subsidy of up to 1,000 yuan. After the promotion, the iPhone 17 Pro can be purchased for as little as 6,999 yuan ( US$1,027 ).

Even the standard iPhone 17 has seen an even more impressive price reduction. The 256GB version, originally priced at 5,999 yuan ( $880 ), can now be purchased for 4,499 yuan ( $660 ), a 25% discount. This significant price drop is thanks to a combination of three incentives: discount coupons, trade-in subsidies, and government subsidies.

The iPhone 17e, after subsidies, costs 3,499 yuan ( US$514 ), a price considered significantly competitive compared to Android rivals in the same segment.

Notably, Apple did not increase the list price of the iPhone 17 series even though most Android phones on the market are priced higher. The main reason stems from the sharply increased cost of the new generation Snapdragon chips, forcing Apple's competitors to adjust their prices.

In this context, the 618 promotion further highlights the price gap between iPhones and many high-end Android models. PChome argues that if Apple continues to maintain its current competitive pricing, other smartphone manufacturers will find it difficult to compete.

The 618 shopping season is one of the two biggest shopping seasons of the year in China, alongside the 11/11 festival. With the price advantage reinforced by double discounts from both retailers and government subsidies, the iPhone 17 series is predicted to continue leading the sales charts during this promotional period.
