In a motion filed in federal court in Newark, New Jersey, Apple argued that placing "reasonable limits" on third-party developers' access to its technology does not constitute anti-competitive behavior. The company maintained that its regulations and conditions are necessary to ensure the security and performance of its products.
This lawsuit focuses on Apple's App Store, where developers must comply with strict regulations and pay high commissions to Apple when selling their apps. The U.S. government argues that these restrictions reduce competition and increase prices for consumers. The lawsuit also alleges that Apple uses its power to suppress potential competitors and maintain market control.
Judge Julien Neals, who is overseeing the case, will receive feedback from the government and a response from Apple before deciding on the proposal later this year.
