China's state market regulator has opened an investigation into Qualcomm on suspicion that the US company violated the country's antitrust laws.
In an online announcement on October 11, the agency said Qualcomm failed to properly disclose the Autotalks acquisition.
The integration of Autotalks technology into Qualcomm's Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform is designed to boost Qualcomm's presence in the automotive chip market.
However, the deal appears to have run into opposition from Beijing amid growing competition in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors.
China is a significant market for Qualcomm, with about 46% of the company's fiscal 2024 revenue related to Chinese customers. As such, the Chinese investigation directly affects the company's business in an important strategic market.
This is not the first time Qualcomm has been embroiled in a legal dispute with China. The company previously paid $975 million to settle an antitrust case.
Another American chip company, Nvidia, was recently caught up in a similar lawsuit in China./.
