According to the latest information from the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) announced on November 27, the number of international tourists will continue to achieve impressive growth in 2025.
In its quarterly World Tourism Report, UN Tourism said more than 1.1 billion international trips were made in the first nine months of this year, up 5% from the same period last year.
The Asia -Pacific region saw a strong recovery of 8%, thanks to the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this figure has not yet returned to the pre-pandemic level in 2019 and is still about 10% lower.
Other regions also recorded impressive growth. Africa saw a significant increase in international tourist arrivals, with North Africa seeing an 11% increase and sub-Saharan Africa seeing a 10% increase.
Meanwhile, Europe continues to hold its position as the largest global destination with 625 million arrivals in the same period, up 4% compared to the same period in 2024.
South America and Central America also posted positive growth, at 9% and 3% respectively, in contrast to a slight decline of 1% in North America.
UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said international tourism has grown steadily this year in both arrivals and revenues, despite inflationary pressures in the tourism industry and geopolitical tensions.
UN Tourism forecasts global tourism to grow by 3-5% for the whole year, but geopolitical instability and high costs could be potential factors that negatively impact the industry's growth prospects./.
