Russia's TASS news agency reported that in an interview with the national television channel AzTV , President Aliyev stated: "On December 27, we clearly conveyed our demands to the Russian side. First, the Russian side must apologize to Azerbaijan. Second, they must admit their mistakes. Third, the perpetrators must be punished."
According to the leader, the ill-fated Embraer 190 plane was shot down from Russian soil, killing 38 people and was damaged.
President Aliyev demanded that Russia hold those responsible for the incident criminally responsible and compensate both the state and the injured passengers and crew members.
Noting that the first request had been fulfilled by Russia, he expressed hope that "the remaining requests will also be met".
On the morning of December 25, an AZAL Embraer 190 aircraft en route from Baku to Grozny (Russia) crashed near the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan. There were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board. Azerbaijani authorities confirmed that 38 people were killed in the incident.
On December 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin apologized to his counterpart Aliyev for what the Kremlin called a "tragic incident".
