According to Danh Diep, Director of the Giang Thanh Commune General Service Center, three red-crowned cranes landed in the sedge and reed grasslands within the core area of the Phu My Species and Habitat Conservation Zone, near the Dong Hoa dike canal, on the afternoon of April 13 and the morning of April 14.

Three red-crowned cranes are foraging in the Phu My Species and Habitat Conservation Area.
The three individuals are believed to be a crane family, distinctly different from the flocks of cranes that flew back to the reserve in 2025. The cranes flew from Cambodia towards the reserve to find food. Besides sedges, red-crowned cranes also eat insects, small fish, frogs, etc.
Earlier, on April 10th, reserve staff observed a flock of 26 cranes flying over the reserve but not returning.
The Phu My Species and Habitat Conservation Area in Giang Thanh commune, An Giang province, covers an area of approximately 2,700 hectares. It is a seasonally flooded ecological zone characterized by severe acidity, rich organic matter, and primarily adapted vegetation such as sedges, reeds, and Melaleuca alternifolia. This is a familiar migration site for the Indochinese red-crowned crane.
