On February 2, 1965 (the first day of the Lunar New Year), Uncle Ho visited the people and cadres of Uong Bi. He advised the cadres and people of Uong Bi to continue building and developing the socio-economic situation. Over the past 60 years, generations of cadres and people of Uong Bi City have made constant efforts to live up to his teachings.
60 years have passed, but the touching images and memories of meeting Uncle Ho are still very clear in the emotions of many people and cadres on the spring morning of 1965. Mrs. Dinh Thi Thang, one of the excellent team members who welcomed Uncle Ho, said: The image of the father of the nation living a simple, close life is always the most beautiful image in my mind. That day, the first day of the new year At Ty, the people of Uong Bi gathered, attended the rally and welcomed Uncle Ho to visit. The atmosphere in the yard at that time was filled with a forest of flags, banners, and extremely bustling banners. Uncle stepped down from the car in front of the surprised joy of thousands of people present, Uncle's eyes were extremely affectionate, making me emotional, unable to describe the joy at that time... Uncle wished the people a Happy New Year, shared gifts with us, everyone tried to stretch up to see Uncle more clearly.
On that day, Uncle Ho warmly wished the workers, soldiers, cadres, heroes of labor and emulation fighters, and young people a new year with new efforts and new victories. He also sent his congratulations and thanks to the Soviet experts who were wholeheartedly helping Vietnam build coal mines, power plants, and mechanical factories. He praised the people and soldiers for their enthusiastic emulation, implementing the slogan "Each person's work is equal to two", contributing to the outstanding achievements of our Southern compatriots.
He kindly advised: “Currently, the Uong Bi Power Plant and the Vang Danh Mine are the largest and most modern enterprises in our country. Coal and electricity are essential for industry and agriculture . You guys should try your best to do a lot, quickly, well, and cheaply...”
Following Uncle Ho's advice, Uong Bi Town at that time proposed specific solutions, carrying out two strategic tasks in parallel: both producing and fighting against the destructive war of the US imperialists, providing human and material support to the revolution in the South, and at the same time exceeding the first 5-year plan, preparing all conditions to enter a new period, building socialism with the people of the North.
During the renovation period, the Party Committee, government and people of Uong Bi City have promoted their combined strength, building the city to be increasingly rich, civilized and modern, achieving many great achievements in all fields. In the period of 2015-2020, the average economic growth rate of Uong Bi reached 13.12%/year, exceeding the average of the province. Annual budget revenue has increased, with the total state budget revenue in 5 years reaching 15,737 billion VND, the average growth rate reached 11.03%.
In the period of 2020-2024, the average economic growth rate of Uong Bi exceeded 13%/year. The city's economy continues to develop sustainably, the structure shifts in a positive direction, increasing the proportion of the service - trade sector, gradually reducing agriculture, forestry and fishery. In particular, the state budget and local budget revenue will grow strongly, reaching over 3,700 billion VND in 2024, contributing to mobilizing social resources to invest in key areas, creating a foundation for new development steps.
Uncle Ho's wishes and expectations for the coal and electricity industries have become the driving force and guiding principle for the staff of the two industries to strive to overcome all difficulties and hardships, and excellently complete their tasks in each stage and period.
Over the past 60 years, with the tradition of "Discipline - Unity" to achieve the goal of producing "a lot, fast, good, cheap" coal as Uncle Ho taught, generations of miners, Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company has always innovated technology, promoted emulation movements, research, technical improvement... and become one of the leading units in the coal industry in applying advanced mining technology into production. The goal of the unit is to build mines in the direction of "Clean mines, modern mines, mines with few people", contributing to increasing labor productivity, improving product quality, ensuring the health of workers. Vang Danh is the underground coal mine with the highest output of the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group today.
After 60 years since Uncle Ho visited, Uong Bi Thermal Power Company has grown steadily. The company always promotes the heroic tradition, solidarity and creativity in production and labor, improves the quality of commercial electricity, realizes the goal of sustainable development and ensures national energy security. The Uong Bi Thermal Power Expansion Project, with a capacity of 300MW, Uong Bi Thermal Power Expansion 2, with a capacity of 330MW, have been handed over to commercial use, raising the company's total capacity to 630MW, ensuring sufficient electricity supply for the country's socio-economic development with about 4 billion kWh/year.
Coming to Uong Bi today, we can clearly see the strong development, the image of a dynamic, modern city, a multi-industry development center, actively contributing to the overall development of Quang Ninh. These results not only reflect the strong innovation of generations of leaders and people of Uong Bi who have constantly united, created and built together, but also are the clearest evidence in implementing the advice of President Ho Chi Minh, striving, creating and building the city with more and more positive changes.
