Previously, on the afternoon of December 29, the Emergency Department of Thanh Vu Medic Bac Lieu General Hospital received a patient, Mr. N. (34 years old, residing in Vinh Trach Commune, Bac Lieu City) who was admitted to the hospital with difficulty breathing, high blood pressure, and many bee stings on the head, face, shoulders, and back. The sting sites were swollen, red, and painful.
The patient was quickly given emergency care, intensive resuscitation, anti-anaphylactic shock treatment, and necessary tests, then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for further treatment.
Assessing this as a severe bee sting case (more than 50 bee stings) causing a grade 2 anaphylactic reaction and blood clotting disorder, with a high risk of death. Therefore, doctors at the hospital quickly combined many measures such as optimal medical treatment and continuous blood filtration.
After 2 days of treatment, the patient's health is now stable, no longer feeling tired or having difficulty breathing, the sting sites have also significantly reduced pain and swelling, and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.
According to the patient's family, on the afternoon of December 29, while driving a tractor to clear the garden, he accidentally touched a hornet's nest. The swarm of bees flew into the cabin and stung Mr. N. in many different places on his body. Immediately, his family took Mr. N. to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Dr. Nguyen Hoang Duyen, Head of the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Thanh Vu Medic Bac Lieu General Hospital, added that wasp venom is very toxic, can cause severe anaphylactic reactions, multiple organ failure, and even death if not treated properly. People who are stung often show signs such as: hives, itching, difficulty breathing, severe pain, dizziness, fatigue, facial swelling, blood in the urine... When experiencing these symptoms, the victim should be taken to the nearest medical facility for timely intervention and treatment.
