With this feature, Grab becomes one of the pioneering app platforms offering a superior utility product, capable of integrating charging station systems developed by various providers so that drivers can find charging stations, charge, and pay – all seamlessly on a single Grab Driver app.
The 'Electric Vehicle Utility' feature is currently available to driver partners using purely electric or hybrid vehicles nationwide, before being studied for potential expansion to two-wheeled vehicle driver partners.
According to a survey conducted by Grab Vietnam with its electric vehicle driver partners, 62% of drivers have to download two or more charging station apps to use. Adding funds to each app for gradual use is also a concern for drivers, as it represents tied-up money. Furthermore, drivers find it difficult to manage their funds because they are held in different wallets.
Furthermore, battery life is a common concern for drivers while operating their vehicles. Up to 68% of surveyed drivers shared that they start feeling anxious and have to look for a charging station as soon as the battery level drops below 30%, or after a long trip and at the end of the workday. In particular, drivers in the "highly cautious" group (12%) start looking for charging stations whenever they have free time to ensure the battery level is always at an appropriate level.
Another concern for drivers is the lack of information about charging station data. Up to 64% of drivers reported having driven to a charging station at least once only to turn back because the station was out of service, under maintenance, or located in a residential area but they were unaware of the location, or it was already full.
Mr. Ma Tuan Trong, CEO of Grab Vietnam, said: "The launch of the 'Electric Vehicle Utility' feature is a significant step in Grab's green transformation strategy. Not only is it a sustainable solution to address the barriers faced by electric vehicle driver partners, but this feature can also help them experience seamless charging stations, operate with peace of mind, and maintain stable livelihoods."
"We believe this will also have a significant incentive for driver partners who have not yet switched, thereby increasing the number of electric vehicles on the Grab platform and contributing to Vietnam's Net Zero goal," Mr. Trong affirmed.
Grab driver partners can seamlessly perform charging-related operations directly within the Grab Driver app.
Now, simply by opening the Grab Driver app and clicking on the feature icon, driver partners can easily access the charging utility whenever they need it, without having to go through additional registration steps or log into individual apps for each charging station provider.
Drivers also don't need to top up their accounts on each charging app in advance for gradual use. Information about charging stations and the status of each charging station is displayed in real time, ensuring reliability so that driver partners can choose a charging location that suits their needs. All operations related to the charging process - from searching, selecting a charging station, starting and completing charging to payment - are all seamlessly integrated into a single Grab Driver app.
In addition, driver partners can enjoy discounted charging rates through Grab's partnerships with various charging station providers.
Currently, the platform developed by Voltality, in the form of the "Electric Vehicle Utility" feature on the Grab Driver app, is expected to connect with over 250 open charging stations from 4 charging station providers in the first half of 2026. The platform will continue to expand significantly, better meeting the growing needs of electric vehicle driver partners on the Grab platform.
To celebrate the launch of the "Electric Vehicle Utility" feature, Grab and its charging station partners are offering special promotions for Grab driver partners. Specifically, driver partners can receive up to 29% off charging fees when charging their vehicles at Eboost charging stations and a 25% discount at charging stations developed by Charge+.
