VnExpressVnExpress31/12/2023

Beaches in Nha Trang and Vung Tau were deserted with domestic tourists during the New Year holiday, while Quang Ninh welcomed two cruise ships carrying 3,700 European tourists.

On December 31, the weather was cloudy in the afternoon, the beach on Tran Phu street, Nha Trang city, was sparsely populated with locals coming to swim. At April 2 square, some stages for the grand music festival and countdown were completed, preparing many attractive programs to serve tourists on the last night of the year.

Similarly, Nha Trang Tourist Wharf, under the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, was also quite deserted. A representative of the wharf said that during the day, there were tourists going on island tours in Nha Trang Bay with destinations such as Bai Tranh Tourist Area, San Ho Bay, and Bai Mini.

"The wharf has served 205 boat and canoe trips with more than 3,000 tourists going on island tours, including about 2,000 foreign tourists, mostly Korean and Chinese tourists. The number of visitors on December 31 is estimated to be the highest in the 3-day holiday," this person said.

Other tourist attractions such as the Institute of Oceanography and Ponagar Tower also have few visitors. Many people said that in the winter, local people have the need to travel to Da Lat, Lam Dong province, for tourism, so Nha Trang is less crowded than in the summer tourist season.

According to Cam Ranh International Airport, it is expected that during the New Year holiday, the airport will serve about 313 flights taking off and landing with about 51,000 passengers. Of which, there are 169 international flights with about 31,000 passengers; 144 domestic flights with nearly 20,000 passengers. On average, there are about 100 flights taking off and landing at Cam Ranh International Airport every day.

Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Le Thanh said Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa is in the low tourist season with the number of domestic tourists continuing to decrease, while the international market is maintained.

In Vung Tau , tourists enjoy and swim on the New Year's Day beaches that are not too crowded, despite the sunny weather and light winds. On the nearly 10km long Bai Sau beach, it is only crowded after 4pm from the Bai Sau Flagpole to the headquarters of the Tourist Management and Support Center.

Often taking her family to Vung Tau for holidays, Ms. Hoai in Bien Hoa City was quite surprised when the beach was less crowded. The restaurants where she went still had many empty tables. "Without having to jostle and wait like usual, I found this holiday quite interesting and fulfilling," Ms. Hoai said.

Beach umbrella, chair and float rental operators say the number of customers using their services has dropped sharply.

"Due to economic difficulties, people rarely sit on chairs or only rent one for 50,000 VND to store their belongings," said one person.

According to the report of the Department of Tourism of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, on December 31, it is estimated that it welcomed more than 91,000 visitors, with revenue of more than 67 billion VND. Of which, the number of visitors to Vung Tau accounted for more than half.

Da Lat city on the second day of the holiday, the number of visitors is not as crowded as previous years. The streets are quite open, making it convenient for vehicles to move around. At famous tourist attractions such as Da Lat Flower Garden, Datanla Waterfall, Da Lat Cable Car, Bao Dai Palace or food and beverage services, taxis are not overloaded.

On this occasion, Da Lat City officially operates an all-night food court in front of Da Lat Flower Garden, open from 5pm the previous day to 5am the next day on weekdays, attracting a large number of people and tourists to come and have fun and eat. The food court has over 50 stalls, of which 30 are food stalls with specialties of Da Lat, some local areas in the country and also typical dishes of foreign countries.

Last night, Da Lat City celebrated its 130th anniversary of establishment and development, nearly 20,000 tourists and locals flocked to the area around Xuan Huong Lake to watch a music program and fireworks display. Lam Vien Square was packed with people.

In Quang Ninh , on December 31, Ha Long International Passenger Port welcomed two super cruise ships that brought nearly 3,700 European and American tourists to visit famous tourist destinations in Quang Ninh. Of which, the Vasco Da Gama (Portuguese nationality) docked in Ha Long for the first time, bringing nearly 650 German tourists. The Celebrity Solstice (Maltese nationality) docked at Ha Long International Passenger Port 5 times in 2023, carrying more than 3,000 European and American tourists. This is also one of the largest groups of tourists from October 2023 to present.

However, the number of domestic tourists is quite low because people choose to return to their hometowns to rest with their relatives or go to China for short-term trips through border gates. On December 30 and 31, at Mong Cai international border gate, thousands of people completed immigration procedures.

Destinations in the northern mountainous areas such as Lao Cai and Ha Giang are crowded as expected, due to their proximity to Hanoi and the beautiful season. The occupancy rate of hotels and homestays is estimated to be over 90%. Today, many tourists had to queue for 2-3 hours at the cable car to reach the top of Fansipan in Sa Pa.
