Most recently, at 4:26 a.m. on July 30, 2025, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police received a fire report at house number 564/2/8 Thong Nhat Street, An Hoi Dong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. The Fire Prevention and Rescue Team of Area 15 mobilized 3 vehicles and 22 officers and soldiers to the scene to deploy forces and equipment to extinguish the fire at 5:05 a.m. on the same day. The fire area was about 6 square meters , the main combustible materials were garbage, plastic bags, and scrap in front of the house. Before the professional fire fighting force arrived, people in this area used fire extinguishers and water hoses to initially extinguish the fire, which somewhat slowed down the development of the fire, helping the professional fire fighting force quickly extinguish the fire.

According to statistics, in 2024, there were 410 fires in Ho Chi Minh City, of which 207/410 were fires in individual houses, and 285/349 were caused by electrical system failures, accounting for 81.7%. Many households hook up and connect electricity arbitrarily; thread electrical wires through thatched roofs and corrugated iron roofs; use too many high-power electrical appliances on the same switch; charge phones, computers, bicycles, electric motorbikes overnight, etc.
Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness of prevention. The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police recommends: Household owners need to proactively learn to have basic knowledge and skills on fire prevention and fighting; urge and remind household members to comply with the provisions of the law on fire prevention and fighting and master basic knowledge on fire prevention and fighting, escape, rescue people in fires, and first aid. When building a house, it is necessary to consider the escape route, there should be 1 main door and 1 escape door. For tube houses, townhouses, and divided lots, do not arrange objects to block or obstruct the escape route; do not install advertising signs, iron cages, iron nets on the balconies and loggias of the house (the corridor facing outside); the terrace and roof need to be arranged to be airy and have access from the lower floors via fixed ladders and doors; do not lock the door to the roof, in case the door has a lock, it is necessary to specify the location of the key in the house. For houses that combine production, business, and storage of goods and substances that are flammable or explosive, they should be arranged separately from the living and working place; do not produce or trade flammable or explosive substances and goods in the house such as gasoline, oil, flammable or explosive chemicals, etc.
For electric stoves (induction stoves, infrared stoves, etc.), the power line must be arranged to match the capacity of the stove and have on/off and protection devices (circuit breakers, circuit breakers, etc.). For oil stoves, clean them regularly; do not pour oil into the stove when it is burning; do not use gasoline as fuel for oil stoves. In the worship area, the walls and ceiling should be made of non-flammable or difficult-to-burn materials; lamps, incense bowls, and candles when lit must be placed firmly on a flat surface to avoid breakage. In case of placing them on other objects, non-flammable or difficult-to-burn objects should be used (metal pads, bowls, plates, cups, etc.); incense lamps, candles, and candles should not be lit when going to bed or when no one is home.
When installing additional electrical appliances, it is necessary to calculate to avoid overloading; do not use many electrical appliances on the same outlet; when installing large heat-generating electrical appliances (heating lamps, fan heaters, ovens, etc.), there must be a safe distance from flammable objects. Turn off electrical appliances when not in use before going to bed or leaving the house.
When detecting a fire or explosion, stay calm, think carefully, and shout the alarm to let all family members know so that they can quickly move out through the safe escape route or through the roof, balcony, or window to the next house or escape down the rope ladder; at the same time, immediately notify the Fire and Rescue Police at 114. When moving through the fire, use a wet towel to cover your mouth and nose and bend low to avoid the risk of smoke inhalation, follow the wall and move to a safe place.
