According to Mr. Tran Cong Khoi, Head of the Department of Aquatic Breeds and Feeds - Department of Fisheries, the country currently has 9.5 million m³ of cages; of which 4.3 million m³ are marine fish cages, 5.2 million m³ are lobster cages and 57 thousand hectares are mollusc farming. The total marine farming output in 2023 is 789.8 thousand tons; in the first 6 months of 2024 it is 370.4 thousand tons (up 12.6% over the same period); reaching 45.2% compared to the 2024 plan (819.8 tons). However, the current difficulties of marine farming in our country are that the breeds for marine fish farming are still limited, the feed for marine fish farming is not diverse; science and technology, especially in the supporting industry, are not specialized; the marine fish farming production chain is not much...
Kien Giang province has advantages in developing a diverse fisheries industry, the marine economy is identified as a key economic sector of the province to create a breakthrough in socio-economic development, focusing on effective and sustainable development of marine aquaculture. Although there are many potentials and advantages for developing marine aquaculture, marine aquaculture in the province in the past still has many potential risks and is unsustainable.

According to Mr. Le Huu Toan - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province, the actual results of marine farming in the province in 2023 were 3,870 cages; output of 3,910 tons; coastal marine farming area was 23,282 hectares, output of 96,327 tons.
According to the 2025 plan, the province will have 7,500 cages with an output of 29,890 tons, concentrated in Phu Quoc, Kien Hai and part of Ha Tien and Kien Luong; the coastal marine farming area will be 25,500 hectares with an output of 83,850 tons, concentrated in Kien Luong, Hon Dat, An Bien and An Minh. By 2030, the province plans to have 14,000 cages with an output of 105,690 tons; the coastal marine farming area will be 26,900 hectares with an output of 101,460 tons.

According to Mr. Le Huu Toan, the province still has a large area, by 2025 it will need 3,630 cages (1,799 traditional cages, 1,831 high-tech cages); the coastal marine farming area is 2,218 hectares, concentrated in Phu Quoc city, Kien Hai district, Kien Luong district, Ha Tien city.
Regarding infrastructure investment to serve the development of marine aquaculture, Kien Giang province currently has 2 projects, including: Project of anti-erosion embankment combined with dredging of storm shelter anchorage area for fishing boats on Nam Du island (in Nam Du commune, Kien Hai district), with a total investment of 430 billion VND, from the provincial budget, implementation period 2023-2026 and Project of storm shelter anchorage area for fishing boats on Nam Du island (Kien Hai district), with a total investment of 405 billion VND, with a capacity scale to accommodate 1,000 ships with a length of up to 35m (or 600CV) to anchor; channel and anchorage water area of 71.6 hectares...
At the workshop, representatives of Institutes, Schools, Research Centers, scientists; businesses, cooperatives, cooperative groups and fishermen, aquaculture farmers also expressed many opinions on environmental protection solutions combined with tourism towards sustainable development; introduced HDPE plastic cage products; introduced research and development of food products for marine aquaculture; introduced products for marine aquaculture and policies to support fishermen...

Enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups and fishermen in aquaculture in the provinces hope that there will be many opportunities to cooperate with Kien Giang province; as well as enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups and fishermen in aquaculture in the province hope that the province will have many policies to support capital, technology, establish a chain of links to consume seafood produced by farmers... to effectively and sustainably develop the marine aquaculture profession.
