According to the 2026 World Cup format , teams will play a round-robin tournament in the group stage to determine rankings. The top two teams in each group and the eight best third-placed teams will qualify for the Round of 16.
In the event of a tie in points among multiple teams in the group stage, the tie-breaking criteria used for ranking are head-to-head performance (calculated separately based on points, goal difference, and the number of goals scored in direct matches between the tied teams). If two teams are tied in all of the above criteria, the organizers will consider the goal difference and the total number of goals scored in all three matches.
When all other tie-breaking criteria are irrelevant, the teams are ranked according to their position on the latest FIFA World Rankings.

Jordan is participating in the World Cup for the first time in its history. The team advanced through the third qualifying round in the Asian region, finishing second in Group B, behind only South Korea.

The Jordan national team is ranked 63rd in the FIFA rankings.

The Argentina national team enters the 2026 World Cup as the defending champions. Lionel Messi and his teammates topped the South American qualifying group with 38 points (9 points ahead of the second-placed team), becoming the first team from the region to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Algeria

Algeria is ranked 28th in the FIFA rankings. This is their fifth appearance at the World Cup. Algeria's best performance was reaching the Round of 16 in 2014, where they lost to Germany, the eventual champions of that tournament.

To qualify for the 2026 World Cup, Algeria finished top of their group, which included Uganda, Mozambique, Guinea, Botswana, and Somalia.
