The ASEAN Football website reported this morning (August 4th): "Vietnamese football referee Tran Dinh Thinh has passed away after suffering a stroke during a physical fitness test."
“The incident occurred on the morning of August 3rd, during a routine physical fitness test in preparation for the 2025-2026 season. Referee Tran Dinh Thinh suddenly collapsed on the track during his final lap.”

Referee Tran Dinh Thinh showed signs of shortness of breath and dizziness before collapsing on the field. On-site medical staff quickly took him to the hospital for emergency treatment,” ASEAN Football added.
According to ASEAN Football, those involved made every effort to provide emergency care to the referee from Dong Nai , but unfortunately, luck was not on his side.
A Southeast Asian football news website shared: "Despite the best efforts of the medical team, referee Tran Dinh Thinh could not be saved."
"The sudden passing of this referee has truly shocked and saddened the Vietnamese football community. Referee Tran Dinh Thinh, born in 1982, won the Silver Whistle award in the V-League 2024-2025," reads the words on the ASEAN Football website.

ASEAN Football also wrote touching words, as a final tribute to referee Tran Dinh Thinh: "Rest in peace, referee Tran Dinh Thinh. Your contributions to Vietnamese football will never be forgotten."
Also this morning, the homepage of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) wrote: “Throughout more than a decade of involvement with national football leagues, referee Tran Dinh Thinh has always demonstrated calmness, seriousness, and composure in the matches he has been assigned.”
His passing is a loss not only to his family and friends but also to an entire generation of referees striving for the development of Vietnamese football.”
"The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) extend their deepest condolences to the family of referee Tran Dinh Thinh, and will work with the family to ensure a proper funeral, as a token of gratitude and recognition of referee Tran Dinh Thinh's contributions to Vietnamese football," the VFF's official website shared with deep sorrow for referee Tran Dinh Thinh and his family.
