Previously, Vietnamese football players with serious injuries often had to go abroad for treatment. This inadvertently affected the prime time for treatment, leading to increased costs.
In recent years, sports medicine in Vietnam has developed strongly, and many national team players with serious injuries have been treated at domestic hospitals with all costs covered by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). The cases of players like Nguyen Xuan Son, Ho Tan Tai, and Nguyen Hieu Minh are typical examples.

Understanding the importance of sports medicine, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has recently expanded its sports medicine network. Following the Vinmec Hospital system, Phenikaa University Hospital has officially become a member of the network. This strategy aims to gradually build a comprehensive medical support system, improving the quality of care, treatment, and rehabilitation for players nationwide. In the future, the VFF will continue to expand the network by cooperating with several hospitals with high expertise in sports medicine across the country.
Phenikaa University Hospital fully meets professional requirements with a system of specialized departments operating in-depth. Through this network, the VFF and its partner medical units aim to build a comprehensive sports medicine care model, shifting from an approach to treating individual injuries to a synchronized process including first aid, in-depth consultation, treatment, post-competition rehabilitation, and prevention of injury recurrence for players.
Fortunately, the personnel at Phenikaa University Hospital directly involved in the network are well-trained doctors and technicians with extensive practical experience. Speaking to a reporter from the People's Army Newspaper, Dr. Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Head of the General Surgery Department, specializing in orthopedic trauma and sports medicine at Phenikaa University Hospital, said: “The cooperation with the VFF aims to build a comprehensive, modern, and synchronized healthcare system for Vietnamese football players. The program not only focuses on injury treatment but also promotes preventive activities, long-term health monitoring, rehabilitation, sports nutrition, and enhances the capacity of football medicine in a systematic and professional manner.”
The Vietnam Football Federation's cooperation with Phenikaa University Hospital, as well as the continued expansion of the sports medicine network in the future, is expected to contribute to improving the professional quality of healthcare and player protection. This is also an important foundation for the sustainable development of Vietnamese football, aiming to conquer new heights.
