Accordingly, the landslide occurred late on July 5, on the Cua Lon River (in Xom Lon Ngoai Hamlet, Hang Vinh Commune), completely submerging 4 houses of households, including: Nguyen Thanh Duoc (36 years old), Nguyen Thanh Tuan (41 years old), Ngo Van Manh (39 years old) and Nguyen Thi Xinh (78 years old). The initial damage caused by the landslide is estimated at about 200 million VND. Fortunately, the landslide did not cause any human casualties.
Mr. Huynh Cong Tam, Chairman of Hang Vinh Commune People's Committee, said that for neighboring houses showing signs of landslides, the commune has directed the Commune Military Command to coordinate with the police and the Volunteer Social Team to mobilize and support the dismantling of architectural objects and moving assets to a safe place. In addition, the local government also visited and supported rice and money (VND 2 million/household) for households affected by landslides.
For more than a month, in districts such as Dam Doi, Nam Can, Ngoc Hien and part of Cai Nuoc, many serious landslides have occurred along rivers, causing heavy damage to people's property and public works, especially rural roads. The most serious of these is in Dam Doi district, where landslides have occurred continuously in a short period of time.
According to the People's Committee of Dam Doi district, if in the whole year of 2022, in Dam Doi district, there were 79 landslides causing property damage of about 6.5 billion VND, then after only 6 months of 2023, this number has increased to over 120 cases, estimated damage of more than 7 billion VND.
According to Mr. Le Minh Hien, Chairman of Dam Doi District People's Committee, the district has organized surveys, reviews and posted warning signs in dangerous areas with high risk of landslides; at the same time, requested agencies, departments, branches, unions, People's Committees of communes and towns to urgently and synchronously implement solutions to handle and overcome landslides.
To prevent and reduce damage caused by landslides, many localities have built embankments in some sections and continued to relocate concrete roads in high-risk areas within the local budget; propagated and mobilized people to participate in building solid embankments, planting trees along rivers, planting trees to prevent landslides; not building houses along rivers, locations at risk of landslides; proactively relocated assets and houses to safe places...
Regarding this issue, Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ca Mau province, said that the Department is working with experts to conduct a trial of a solution to regulate the flow. According to statistics, since the beginning of the year, natural disasters have caused nearly 14 billion VND in damage to Ca Mau , of which landslides have caused the most damage.
