How often should I get a haircut?

Getting a haircut isn't just about changing your look; it's also an important step in maintaining the health of your hair.

Hair is subjected to many environmental factors such as sun, wind, air pollution, chemicals from hair dyes, perms, and heat styling tools. All of these factors cause the ends of the hair, furthest from the scalp, to become dry, brittle, split, and weaken over time. If not removed, this damaged hair will affect the overall health of the entire head of hair.

How often should I get a haircut?

There are no absolute numbers that work for everyone, but here's a guide based on hair type and care needs:

Short hair: Short hair easily shows imbalances when it grows longer. Therefore, you should get a haircut every 4-6 weeks to maintain the style and prevent the back from growing faster than the front, ruining the look.

Long hair: If you want to grow your hair long while maintaining its health and beauty, trim the ends every 8-12 weeks. Regular trimming removes split ends without significantly affecting length, and helps hair grow evenly with less breakage.

Naturally curly or wavy hair: Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair because the curly structure makes it difficult for natural oils to spread from the scalp to the ends of the hair. You should trim your hair every 8-12 weeks to maintain elasticity and prevent tangling and breakage.

Dyed, bleached, permed, or straightened hair: Chemically treated hair is more prone to damage, especially at the ends. Therefore, it's recommended to get a haircut every 6-8 weeks to maintain good hair condition and aid in hair recovery after chemical treatments.

Men's hairstyles: For short men's hair, getting a haircut every 3-5 weeks is ideal to maintain a neat and clean look, especially for styles like fades, undercuts, or spiked hair.

Signs that you need a haircut right away.

The ends of the hair begin to split into two or more branches.

Dry, frizzy hair is prone to breakage when brushed or styled.

The hair looks out of shape, messy, and difficult to manage.

My hair has grown longer, but it's no longer as shiny and smooth as it used to be.

Despite using conditioner and hair masks, my hair hasn't improved.
