In the semi-finals of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament, U23 Philippines will face U23 Vietnam at 4pm tomorrow night. Meanwhile, U23 Thailand will face host Indonesia at 8pm the same day. Both semi-finals will take place at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (Jakarta, Indonesia).
The Philippine Inquirer wrote: “Philippine football reached the semi-finals of the Southeast Asian U23 tournament for the first time. The Philippine U23 team had a breakthrough performance in this tournament.”

“Under the guidance of coach Garrath McPherson, the Philippines U23 team won against two opponents Malaysia and Brunei in the group stage, only losing to the host team Indonesia. The Philippines U23 team finished second in Group A,” the Inquirer added.
The Philippine newspaper admitted that the country's youth team is not the strongest team in the U23 Southeast Asian tournament, but the important thing is that they successfully achieved their goal, which is to reach the semi-finals.
Inquirer shared: “The U23 Philippines’ ticket to the semi-finals was partly contributed by the results from several other matches, especially the 2-1 win of U23 Vietnam against U23 Cambodia in Group B, as well as the goalless draw of Thailand against Myanmar in Group C”.
"U23 Philippines entered the semi-finals as the second-placed team with the best record, out of the three groups of this year's tournament", is still the line written in the Philippine Inquirer newspaper.

The team under coach Garrath McPherson will soon have a semi-final match with U23 Vietnam. The Philippine media is eagerly awaiting this match.
The Inquirer commented: “With a ticket to the semi-finals, U23 Philippines will face U23 Vietnam. The semi-final match between the two teams will take place on Friday afternoon (July 25), at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, in Jakarta (Indonesia)”.
“If they qualify for the finals, the Philippines U23 will play the championship match on Monday (July 29). In case the Philippines U23 fails to advance to the semi-finals, the team will play the third-place match on Sunday (July 28). All these matches will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium,” the Inquirer reported.
In the history of the previous 4 U23 Southeast Asian tournaments, U23 Vietnam has won the championship twice, while U23 Philippines has never won a medal.
