Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark has many values in terms of geology, geomorphology, culture, biodiversity... In particular, the value of cultural resources in the Geopark area is very diverse and rich, creating its own unique characteristics. In the process of building the Geopark, all levels, sectors and people living in the Geopark area join hands to preserve and promote heritage and cultural values to meet UNESCO's recommended requirements.
As a province with over 92% ethnic minorities, Cao Bang has great potential for both natural and cultural tourism with ranked historical and cultural relics. Many ethnic groups live together with diverse and unique cultural traditions and festivals that are being preserved and spread. This has created a vibrant cultural identity for the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark.
With a rich cultural history, Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark currently has a large number of tangible and intangible cultural heritages. The total number of relics and scenic spots in the province is currently 214, of which 91 have been ranked (including 3 special national relics, 23 national relics, 25 provincial relics). Within the Cao Bang Geopark, there are 67 relics, of which 3 are special national relics, 19 national relics and 20 provincial relics. In order to preserve and promote cultural values in the Geopark area, in recent years, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the province have synchronously implemented solutions to preserve and promote cultural heritage values.
Comrade Dang Thu Hong, Head of the Department of Building Cultural Lifestyle and Family, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: The province focuses on preserving and promoting ethnic cultural values through the implementation of projects and scientific research topics on collecting and studying cultural values, folk literature - art, folk music, folk dance of ethnic groups and projects on tourism development in the province, especially within the scope of the Geopark, such as: collecting and studying Da Hai melodies of the Nung ethnic group; preserving and restoring the traditional Fireworks Festival of Quang Hoa district; collecting and preserving the art of Then singing and Tinh lute of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups; collecting and studying folk songs and folk dances of the Red Dao people; collecting and studying folk songs and folk dances of the San Chi people; researching and restoring the wedding of the Red Dao people; collecting and preserving the art of Then singing of the four seasons of the Tay ethnic group; Research on temples, pagodas and shrines in Cao Bang - current situation and solutions; research on Cao Bang inscriptions and steles through the dynasties; research on wedding rituals of the Lo Lo people; research on establishing scientific records of Then rituals of the Tay people; research and propose solutions to preserve and promote the values of folk songs of the Tay, Nung, Mong and Dao ethnic groups; Research and compile teaching materials for some Tay and Nung folk songs at the School of Arts and Sports Talents... All levels and sectors pay attention to exploiting and developing the folk culture of ethnic minorities in art performance programs; organizing competitions, performances, and mass art festivals. Most localities in the province maintain the organization of cultural and sports festivals of ethnic groups during holidays and Tet, which are very meaningful, encouraging and motivating ethnic people to actively and voluntarily participate in preserving and promoting traditional cultural and sports values of the nation, enriching the spiritual and cultural life. Some localities have initially effectively exploited traditional ethnic culture associated with developing community tourism, attracting a large number of tourists, while preserving, maintaining and promoting traditional cultural values of the nation, notably: Pac Rang, Phja Thap, Ban Giuong (Quang Hoa), Khuoi Khon (Bao Lac)...

The work of building cultural life at the grassroots level has been focused on by leaders and has achieved positive results. Infrastructure and cultural institutions have been invested in and built. Attention has been paid to building cultural families, focusing on preserving and promoting the morality and good traditional values of Vietnamese families and people; improving the quality of building cultural villages, hamlets and residential areas. Localities have paid attention to directing and guiding residential areas to build and implement conventions and village covenants. Up to now, 100% of villages, hamlets and residential groups in the province have built, reviewed and revised conventions and village covenants to submit to competent authorities for approval; 100% of festivals are organized in a civilized way of life, ensuring compliance with regulations; backward customs have been gradually pushed back, and a healthy, progressive and civilized cultural environment has been built... Thereby, contributing to improving the quality of the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life"; By the end of 2023, the whole province will have over 85% of cultural families, 82% of cultural hamlets and residential groups...
When coming to Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark, visitors not only enjoy and experience the beautiful pristine landscapes but also immerse themselves in the unique cultural identity of the ethnic groups living in the Geopark area.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism To Thi Trang, the ongoing trend of development and global integration has caused more pressure and contradictions between the development and preservation of cultural heritage values. The traditional culture of ethnic minorities in the Geopark area is at risk of being lost due to the impact of the market economy and the influence of foreign cultures... Therefore, the preservation and promotion of cultural values in the Geopark area is one of the key tasks in the current period. Because the heritages that are preserved and exploited both contribute to sustainable socio-economic development and effectively promote the potentials and strengths of the province. Localities in the Geopark area need to join hands, strengthen propaganda to raise awareness for managers, investors and the community about the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values in the direction of exploitation combined with preservation.
