Decisive action from the grassroots level

Da Nang City currently has a total natural area of ​​nearly 1.186 million hectares; of which the area of ​​forests and forestry land accounts for a large proportion with more than 836,000 hectares, and the forest cover rate is expected to reach 58.25% by the end of 2025. These are not just mechanical figures but the result of a persistent forest conservation process starting from the grassroots level.

With a total natural area of ​​35,910 hectares, Que Phuoc commune possesses forest and forestry land area of ​​up to 31,606 hectares, spread across 35 sub-areas with a forest cover rate of up to 72.26%.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, in order to effectively implement forest protection work, the commune focuses on managing and using forest land effectively, ensuring it is used for the right purpose and in accordance with the plan. In addition, the commune promotes the development of large timber forests and multi-species plantations using native species; and supports people in switching to crops that are both economically efficient and have high protective capabilities, reducing the risk of forest fires...

In Song Kon, Chairman of the People's Committee Do Huu Tung said that forest management and protection are implemented comprehensively, regularly, and continuously, closely following the actual situation in the area. The locality clearly defines the responsibilities of each organization and individual, especially the head of each organization, in carrying out the task.

The close coordination between the commune People's Committee, local forest rangers, police, military , and other departments, agencies, and organizations has effectively prevented violations and strictly protected existing forest areas, thereby increasing forest cover, protecting water resources for agriculture, and preserving the ecological environment.

According to Mr. Quach Huu Son, Deputy Head of the Da Nang Forest Protection Department, the unit has recently advised and vigorously implemented professional tasks related to forest management and protection, forest fire prevention and control, nature conservation, and biodiversity preservation.

Legal awareness campaigns are regularly and diversely implemented, reaching every household living near the forest, thereby raising community awareness. In the coming time, the forest rangers will continue to strengthen inspection, supervision, and strictly handle violations...

Innovating management thinking

Over the years, the Da Nang City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee have issued many important policies and guidelines on forest protection and development. These efforts have contributed to maintaining and preserving more than 745,000 hectares of forest. This represents a significant potential and advantage for socio-economic development, gradually improving income and livelihoods for those working in forestry, while also protecting the environment and responding to climate change.

However, forestry still faces limitations such as: insufficient investment resources; development of large-timber plantations not commensurate with potential; and a lack of sustainable linkages in the value chain from production to consumption.

To strengthen forest management, protection, and development, on April 6, 2026, the Da Nang City Party Committee issued Resolution No. 12-NQ/TU on strengthening forest management, protection, and development in Da Nang City for the period 2026-2030, with a vision to 2045. This resolution is an important basis, affirming the city's strong determination to realize the goal of developing Da Nang into a green, ecological, modern, and sustainable city.

On April 29, 2026, the People's Committee of the city issued Action Program No. 01/CTr-UBND to implement Resolution No. 12-NQ/TU. This program concretizes the goals and tasks in the resolution, ensuring high unity in leadership, direction, and coordinated implementation from the city level to the grassroots, in line with the city's development requirements in the new phase.

The action program calls for improving the effectiveness of state management, innovating thinking towards modernization, promoting the application of science and technology and digital transformation; and maximizing the multi-purpose values ​​of forest ecosystems in conjunction with sustainable development.

The City People's Committee requires all departments, agencies, the People's Committees of communes, wards, special zones, and related units to enhance their responsibility, ensure unified leadership, and act decisively. Each unit must develop a specific plan, clearly defining the completion schedule and quantifiable outputs.

It is clear that, with the synchronized involvement of the entire political system and strong innovation in management thinking, the greenness of Da Nang's forests will continue to be preserved and developed, rightfully serving as the green lung and a solid foundation for a modern ecological city.
