Barcelona have not been able to close the Williams deal. |
Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that the club are willing to pay Williams' €58 million release clause. However, final terms have yet to be agreed between the two parties, raising concerns that the deal could fall through. Barcelona are trying to come up with a structured offer.
According to Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona has set a deadline to complete the deal before July 13, when the team begins its summer training camp. Meanwhile, Bilbao will begin training on July 9. Williams is expected to have a few more days off to complete the final procedures in his transfer to Barcelona.
The source also said that although Williams accepted a pay cut to join Barcelona (about 7-8 million euros/season), he was worried about following in the footsteps of Dani Olmo. At the end of 2024, Olmo was not registered by Barcelona to play in La Liga due to financial regulations. Although everything went smoothly after that, Williams believes that he did not want to miss the opportunity to play regularly to maintain his form.
Barcelona are facing competition from Bayern Munich in the deal, with the Bavarians reportedly offering Williams a new contract worth €12m per season if he rejects Barcelona and moves to the Allianz Arena.
Bayern hope for a possible surprise scenario, as Barcelona are having problems registering players and paying transfer fees.
