On August 18th, according to information from the Yen Thanh District Police ( Nghe An province ), the unit has just initiated legal proceedings and temporarily detained four former leaders of My Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, to investigate the crime of "Abuse of power in the performance of official duties".
The individuals charged include Nguyen Van Nam (born in 1959), former Secretary of the Party Committee of My Thanh commune; Nguyen Van Dinh (born in 1956), former Chairman of the People's Committee of My Thanh commune; Nguyen Van Thach (born in 1960), former chief accountant; and Nguyen Vinh Chinh, former land cadastral officer of the commune.

According to the police investigation, from 2004 to 2015, the defendants sold 56 plots of land with a total area of approximately 4,317 square meters of various types of land in the commune.
In this case, Nguyen Van Nam, in his role as Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, was identified as having directed Nguyen Van Dinh and other officials to sell land in the commune, illegally profiting more than 1.2 billion VND and causing a loss to the state of more than 111 million VND.
The defendants confessed that the money from the land sale was deposited into the commune's budget and accounted for as voluntary contributions from the people to the treasury, with the aim of withdrawing 100% of this money for the commune to use in building infrastructure and new rural facilities for the locality.
The Yen Thanh District Police (Nghe An province) are currently continuing their investigation.
