Mr. Lee also stressed the need to properly manage relations with China and Russia, while seeking peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.
According to candidate Lee Jae Myung, peace and stability on the Korean peninsula are important. On the basis of strong military power, there should be dialogue, cooperation and peace.
Kim Moon Soo of the PPP has proposed a tougher approach to dealing with North Korea. Candidate Kim Moon Soo has pledged to strengthen the nuclear deterrent based on the South Korea-US alliance and build a country that is resilient to any threat.

Candidates Lee Jae Myung and Kim Moon Soo argued fiercely over former President Yoon Suk Yeol's imposition of martial law and his impeachment.
Mr. Lee Jae Myung questioned Mr. Kim Moon Soo whether he agreed with the impeachment of Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol, Mr. Kim replied that such a process was valid according to the Constitutional Court's ruling, while there were some procedural errors in the process leading to the impeachment.
According to Mr. Kim, the verdict on the sedition charge should be made after the ongoing trial at the Seoul Central District Court ends.
Regarding political reform, Mr. Lee Jae Myung said he would amend the Constitution to tighten requirements for imposing martial law, limit the president's veto power, and strengthen the basic rights of the people.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kim Moon Soo said he will aim to seek a politics that unites people regardless of their wealth, political leanings and region.
Meanwhile, candidate Lee Jun Seok stressed that he is the right candidate to carry out constitutional reform. Candidate Kwon Young Kook said he would seek constitutional reform to prohibit discrimination and seek changes in the areas of labor, agriculture and climate change.
As the campaign enters its final week, recent polls show DP candidate Lee Jae Myung leading the race, but the gap between him and PPP candidate Kim Moon Soo has narrowed this week. Lee Jun Seok's support rate has also increased to double digits./.
