Luis Diaz leaves Liverpool for Bayern Munich. |
The Colombian star has signed a contract until 2029 and will wear the number 14 shirt at the Allianz Arena.
After weeks of intense negotiations, the “Gray Tigers” finally got the winger they craved. According to the German press, the fee of 75 million euros for this deal is within the budget limit set by Bayern, making Luis Diaz the third most expensive contract in the club’s history, only behind Harry Kane (95 million euros) and Lucas Hernandez (80 million euros).
Díaz, 28, is the fourth option after Bayern failed in their attempts to sign Florian Wirtz, Nico Williams and Bradley Barcola. Speaking on the day of his debut, the former Liverpool player could not hide his happiness: "Joining Bayern - one of the greatest teams in the world - is my dream. I want to give my all and help the club win many titles."
Bayern Munich's sporting director Max Eberl also expressed his expectations: "Luis Diaz is a world-class player, technically complete and extremely durable. He will immediately make a difference for Bayern. Deals like this only succeed when all the elements are right. Fans can look forward to a big star."
Diaz will receive a salary of about 14 million euros/year, a sharp increase compared to the 2.7 million euros/year at Liverpool. The final negotiations were "finalized" by Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes.
With Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller leaving, and Jamal Musiala suffering a long-term injury, the arrival of Luis Diz is seen as an urgent solution to coach Vincent Kompany's attacking problem. With his speed, agility and explosive ability in big matches, the Colombian star promises to become a key player in the journey to defend the Bundesliga title and conquer the Champions League next season.
