Over the past period, the An Giang Provincial Border Guard has effectively combated many criminal cases, most notably dismantling illegal gold and foreign currency trafficking rings across the border, seizing over 12kg of gold along with many large-scale smuggling and drug trafficking cases. In particular, the arrest of an individual illegally transporting over 7.2 billion VND across the Long Binh border area on November 22, 2025, clearly demonstrated their courage, resourcefulness, and unwavering commitment to crime.

According to the report at the ceremony, at approximately 8:30 AM on November 22, 2025, while patrolling and inspecting the Thanh Phu hamlet area in Khanh Binh commune, the task force of the Long Binh International Border Gate Border Guard Station, in coordination with the Anti-Drug and Crime Task Force of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command and the Southern Anti-Drug and Crime Task Force, discovered Nguyen Van Chau (born in 2000, residing in Nhon Hoi commune, An Giang province) exhibiting suspicious behavior.

On behalf of the President of Vietnam, Mr. Ho Van Mung, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang Province, presented the Third-Class Military Merit Order to two individuals.

At the time of the inspection, Chau was carrying a cardboard box with the word "SHARD" printed on it, sealed with yellow tape, moving from the rural road down to the Hau River bank, about 30 meters from the river's edge. Upon inspection, authorities discovered three black packages containing a large amount of Vietnamese currency, including 14,106 banknotes of 500,000 VND denomination, 1,200 banknotes of 200,000 VND denomination, and many other denominations.

Lieutenant General Ho Van Thai, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of Military Region 9, presented flowers to congratulate the two individuals.

Working with authorities, Nguyen Van Chau confessed that he was hired by a Cambodian national named Sen to use a small boat to go to the mango orchard area in Thanh Phu hamlet to receive money from a woman named Ut Huyen, and then transport it to Cambodia to hand it over at the 36 rice warehouse area to receive payment. However, while he was on his way to bring the money down to the riverbank to transport it across the border, he was discovered and caught red-handed by the Border Guard. Immediately afterwards, authorities drew up a report arresting Nguyen Van Chau for the crime of "Illegally transporting currency across the border," and completed the necessary paperwork for processing according to the law.

The incident highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods used by cross-border criminals, who exploit waterways, trails, and small vehicles to transport illegal money. The successful detection and arrest demonstrate the vigilance, professional acumen, and determination of the An Giang Border Guard force in combating crime.

Recognizing their exceptionally outstanding achievements in combating the illegal trafficking of money across the border, contributing to maintaining political security and social order, the President of Vietnam has decided to award the Third-Class Military Merit Medal to the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command and two individuals: Colonel Pham Van Thang, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Military Command and Commander of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command; and Lieutenant Colonel Tran Viet Duc, Commander of the Long Binh International Border Gate Border Guard Station.
