A 5-year-old child suffered a 25cm laceration to the head from a dog bite.

QNgTV - In Quang Ngai, the Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital received and treated a 5-year-old child from Ba Gia commune who was seriously attacked in the head by a pet dog.

The child was brought to the emergency room in a state of panic, with a deep laceration on the scalp caused by a Berger dog bite, resulting in significant bleeding. Upon examination, doctors noted a wound approximately 25cm long, exposing the skull bone.

Immediately afterward, the medical team treated the wound, applied pressure bandages to stop the bleeding, provided pain relief, administered a rabies vaccine, and ordered an X-ray to assess the damage. The child was then taken to the operating room for hemostasis, debridement, and reconstructive surgery on the head.

Thanks to timely emergency care, the child's health is now stable and is being continuously monitored and treated in the Surgery Department.

Doctors advise that the risk of rabies increases during hot weather, so people should not be complacent about their pets, and especially should limit children's playtime with dogs and cats without adult supervision. If bitten or scratched by an animal, it is necessary to quickly provide first aid and take the victim to a medical facility for timely treatment and vaccination.
