Difficulty defecating and prolonged constipation become the obsession of many patients with rectal prolapse. According to information from Quang Ninh General Hospital, recently doctors received and operated on patient HTN (female, 62 years old) in Dong Trieu city with rectal prolapse causing prolonged constipation.

It is known that in the past few months, the patient had been at home with anal pain, prolonged constipation, and had difficulty defecating, requiring manipulation to expel stool. After examination, the doctor diagnosed the patient with rectal prolapse and indicated surgery.

The patient decided to go to Quang Ninh General Hospital for treatment. Doctors from the Department of Surgery performed a transanal rectal prolapse surgery using the STARR method to improve the patient's long-term constipation.

The surgical team of the Department of Surgery led by Dr. Pham Viet Hung, Head of the Department, and his colleagues, in coordination with the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation, performed the surgery. The surgery was successful after 40 minutes, with no blood loss, so the patient recovered quickly after surgery, had little pain, and had normal bowel movements after 3 days.

After surgery, patient N. shared: "Before, every time I had a bowel movement, it was extremely difficult. I could sit for hours without being able to go. I was always in pain in my lower body. Now, just a few days after surgery, I can have a bowel movement more easily. I am very happy. The doctors are attentive and thoughtful, and the techniques are modern, so we patients are very assured."

Rectocele is a hernia of the anterior rectal wall, causing a disorder in passing stool through the anus, usually only found in women. This disease causes difficulty in defecation and prolonged constipation, often accompanied by prolapse of other organs in the pelvic area, causing a lot of trouble for the patient.

Doctor CKII Pham Viet Hung, Head of Surgery Department said: Rectal prolapse surgery through the anus is a method with many advantages, leaving no surgical scars on the body, good treatment results, helping patients recover quickly, limiting post-operative complications, ensuring the defecation function of the anus, reducing the burden of disease. This method is especially suitable for many subjects, including the elderly or patients with underlying diseases.
