Hospital 121 currently has 36 departments with 532 staff, including more than 160 doctors, university pharmacists, nursing bachelors and over 75% postgraduates. Meritorious physician, Colonel, Doctor Nguyen Minh Thuan, Director of Hospital 121, said that since 2014, Hospital 121 has continuously invested in modern facilities and equipment. Many modern equipment supporting diagnosis and treatment such as: CT scanner, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for timely diagnosis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, scintigraphy (Spect CT for kidney scintigraphy, bone scintigraphy, thyroid scintigraphy), liver elastography (Fibroscan), digestive endoscopy, bone densitometry, spinal traction machine... are increasingly effective in medical examination and treatment for wounded and sick soldiers and people in the Mekong Delta.

Patient's life and health are paramount

In emergency care and treatment of critical cases, the medical team at Hospital 121 always strives to follow the motto "Doctors are like kind mothers". Many difficult cases have been successfully treated by Hospital 121.

Typically, on March 9, 2021, patient NVĐ (56 years old, residing in Long Xuyen City, An Giang ) was hospitalized with abdominal pain and difficulty walking. Through paraclinical results, the doctor discovered that Mr. Đ. had a very large tumor occupying almost the entire abdomen. To promptly treat the patient, the doctors performed surgery for 6 hours, successfully removing the tumor weighing nearly 3 kg. 24 hours after surgery, the patient was alert, pulse and blood pressure were stable, then discharged from the hospital, healthy and returned to normal life with lots of joy.

At around 2:00 p.m. on February 12, 2023, patient TKK (54 years old, residing in My Xuyen District, Soc Trang) suffered a traumatic brain injury in a traffic accident and was taken to Hospital 121 after the "golden hour" for brain treatment (20:05). However, with the spirit of "saving people is better than putting out a fire", Dr. CK2 Le Van Cong, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, and the medical team of Hospital 121 raced against time to perform surgery at 20:15 on the same day to perform emergency surgery to open the skull to decompress and remove the blood clot for the patient. The surgery ended at 0:10 a.m. on February 13, 2023 and all subsequent developments were extremely good, even though patient K. had underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and coronary artery stenting for 5 years.

Dr. Nguyen Minh Thuan said that on February 21, 2023, patient NHN (21 years old, residing in Gia Rai Town, Bac Lieu) fell from a height and hit his head on the concrete floor, causing him to lose consciousness. Based on the CT scan results, the doctor diagnosed the patient with a traumatic brain injury, a large amount of extradural hematoma above and below the occipital tentorium (T) and temporal vertex (T), a contusion of the brain in the frontal region (T), and a skull fracture in the temporal region (T) due to a domestic accident. The patient arrived at the hospital at the 8th hour (4 hours late compared to the golden hour for treatment - PV). The team of doctors at BV121 performed craniotomy to remove the hematoma, prevent cerebral edema, transfuse blood, stop bleeding, use antibiotics, balance electrolytes, nourish the brain, support physical condition, and restore function, and patient N. was truly "resurrected" to be healthy and happy again.

"In the past time, Hospital 121 has successfully treated many serious cases such as quadriplegia due to lumbar and cervical disc damage; penetrating heart wounds caused by knife stabs; venomous snake bites... Through the Telemedicine system, Hospital 121 also closely coordinated with Hospital 175, Hospital 103, and Central Military Hospital 108 to actively provide professional support to the Military Medical Department of Tho Chu Island (Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang) to successfully handle a series of life-threatening emergency cases. It is expected that in the third quarter of 2023, Hospital 121 will start construction of additional examination areas and halls; at the same time, carry out procedures to deploy an examination, physical therapy, and rehabilitation area in Duong To commune, Phu Quoc City on an area of ​​over 30,000 m2 ^to expand and further improve the quality of service for domestic and foreign patients", informed Dr. CK2 Nguyen Minh Thuan.
