The patient had a retinal CT scan to check his vision at Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital (located in Tam Hiep ward). |
Specialist Doctor I Tran The Thang, Executive Director of Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital (located in Tam Hiep ward), said that recently, the hospital has received many patients with diabetic retinopathy. Symptoms of the disease include blurred vision, seeing floaters or black spots in front of the eyes, distortion, and difficulty distinguishing colors.
Diabetic retinopathy develops silently, so although endocrinologists recommend regular eye exams, most patients are often subjective and only go to the doctor when their eyes are blurred and they cannot see clearly.
At Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital, doctors will examine the patient, take non-fluorescent fundus color photos, OCT (optical computed tomography) to determine whether there is macular edema or combined retinal tomography lesions, and take non-fluorescent fundus color photos.
Thereby, doctors will conduct treatment using different methods depending on the patient's condition.
According to Dr. Tran The Thang, to prevent diabetic retinopathy, the most important thing is that patients need to maintain good blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, quit smoking if they are smoking, and exercise regularly. In particular, it is necessary to have regular eye exams and health checks. If there are any changes in vision, they need to see a doctor immediately.
Early eye examination for diabetic patients is necessary to detect retinal damage and promptly refer to an ophthalmologist for examination and treatment, avoiding the risk of permanent vision loss and blindness.
