CNN reported that the Boeing 737 left Columbus on April 23. The crew later reported that the plane's engine caught fire due to a "bird strike."

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the Boeing 737 returned to its origin and landed safely. No one on board was injured. The FAA said it was investigating the incident.

"Emergency response teams responded to an aircraft engine fire this morning. The aircraft landed safely. The airport remains open and operating as normal," John Glenn Columbus International Airport said on Twitter.

A passenger on board told NBC 4 that he and others on the plane heard a loud noise. A pilot reportedly told them the plane hit a flock of geese shortly after takeoff.

All passengers were transferred to another flight on the morning of April 23.

According to the New York Post, the incident occurred just days after another plane suffered an engine fire while taking off from Charlotte Douglas Airport in North Carolina, USA. Fortunately, no one was injured. The cause was later determined to be engine failure.

In March this year, a Southwest Airlines plane was forced to return to its departure point after hitting a bird, causing the engine to catch fire and smoke to fill the cabin.

Southwest Airlines flight number 3923 departing from Jose Marti International Airport, Havana - Cuba, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida - USA on the morning of March 5 was hit by a bird in the engine and nose of the plane right after takeoff, causing one engine to catch fire.

Video taken by passengers showed smoke filling the cabin and oxygen masks deploying. Passengers screamed in panic and the plane returned to Jose Marti International Airport, eventually landing safely.
