Universal, the studio behind the live-action How to Train Your Dragon , has announced the cast for the animated film. Mason Thames, who starred in the horror film The Black Phone, will play Hiccup, a Viking boy who becomes a dragon rider. Nico Parker, who starred in the TV series The Last of Us , will play Astrid, Hiccup's companion.
Universal has found an actor to play Hiccup in the movie.
Director Dean DeBlois is at the helm of this remake project. The How to Train Your Dragon franchise tells the story of friendship between a Viking and a legendary black dragon, Toothless. After many incidents, their friendship becomes stronger and stronger.
International sources say that the live-action project took months to find the actors. The producers set high standards for the artists, saying that the chosen artists must be able to portray the spirit of the character in the animated version, because this is a coming-of-age story, not just a simple action-adventure film.
IGN said the project was announced by the producers back in February. And filmmaker Dean DeBlois, one of the directors who created the soul of the three original animated films, immediately sat in the director's chair instead of another filmmaker.
Along with the announcement of the actors in the remake, the crew plans to film How to Train Your Dragon this summer, sources did not specify when.
