In this match, both sides played dirty tricks on each other many times. At the end of the first half, players from both teams even got into a scuffle. Towards the end, the match became more heated when the coaching staff of both teams joined in.

Indonesian media has accused coach Kim Sang Sik of unsportsmanlike conduct. CNN Indonesia commented: “Coach Gerald Vanenburg was very angry when coach Kim Sang Sik prevented Robi Darwis from taking a throw-in in the final minutes of the match. Coach Kim Sang Sik was then shown a yellow card for his unsportsmanlike conduct.”

Not stopping there, CNN Indonesia continued to denounce: “The assistant coach of U23 Vietnam was discovered deliberately arranging water bottles to obstruct Robi Darwis. It should be emphasized that before coach Kim Sang Sik received a yellow card for foul play, there were no water bottles obstructing Robi Darwis' throw-in area.

The assistant coach of the Indonesian U23 team, Mr. Damian van Rensburg, took the initiative to move the water bottles away from the area. However, Mr. Damian was shown a red card by the referee.

The Indonesian newspaper also accused U23 Vietnam of deliberately placing water bottles on the sidelines to prevent Robi Darwis from throwing the ball in (Screenshot).

In response to the accusation from Indonesia, coach Kim Sang Sik affirmed that U23 Vietnam did not intentionally prevent Robi Darwis from taking a throw-in. He said: “The weather is very hot. We arranged the water bottles like that so that the players could drink water, there was no other intention.”

Also in this match, Coach Kim Sang Sik bowed to the referee after receiving a yellow card. However, the main referee Takasaki did not take any action to increase the penalty for Coach Kim Sang Sik. This shows that the referee did not consider this act of disrespect by the Korean coach.

By defeating U23 Indonesia, U23 Vietnam made history by becoming the first team to win the U23 Southeast Asian Championship three times in a row.
