Mr. Hoang Nam Tien – Vice Chairman of theFPT University Board of Directors – passed away suddenly on the afternoon of July 31st at the age of 57, leaving behind deep sorrow in the technology, education, and publishing communities.

Mr. Hoang Nam Tien passed away suddenly on July 31st.
During his lifetime, he was not only a respected technology expert and business leader but also made a significant mark in the publishing industry.
Despite humbly admitting to not being a skilled writer and being poor at Literature, he still captivated readers with a series of publications imbued with academic depth and emotion, such as " Letters to My Dear," "From the Ben Hai River to the Independence Palace," "13 Lectures by Professor Tien on Management and Leadership," and "Applications of AI in Business."
Writing to preserve memories, to continue emotions.
Drawing from his family's personal documents, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien authored two exceptional books: "Letters to My Sister" and "From the Ben Hai River to the Independence Palace." These are not just personal publishing projects, but a journey of preserving memories, recounting historical stories, and spreading humanistic values to the community.
Published at the end of March 2024, "Letters to You" is a collection of over 400 love letters between his parents – Major General Hoang Dan and Mrs. Nguyen Thi An Vinh – written to each other during the war years.
The book consists of four parts: Returning from Dien Bien Phu, we get married!; Fragrance evokes memories; Letters to my beloved amidst the clash of enemy and enemy guns; Coming back here to be together , corresponding to the time periods from when the general and his wife first fell in love, to the days of separation due to war, and finally, their life together in old age.

Readers were moved by the timeless love story, intertwined with significant milestones in the nation's history such as Dien Bien Phu in 1954, Khe Sanh in 1968, Quang Tri in 1972, and Saigon in 1975... " Letter to You" is not just the love story of two people; it's the love story of an entire generation, where love, loyalty, and sacrifice are intertwined. The book quickly gained popularity, being reprinted for the fourth time in less than two months.
Speaking about the reasons for writing the book, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien said: "When parents are gone, all children can build tombs, build churches, or even use the money from their parents' funeral donations to do charity work. I did all of that. When my father passed away, I built a school for the local community in my hometown. When my mother passed away, I used the money to create computer rooms in many places. But I wanted to do more than that. And that more than that is the book 'Letters to You'."
"Letters to You" was honored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as one of the outstanding books in the field of performing arts and literature in 2024. "Letters to You" has been reprinted 9 times with over 40,000 copies printed.
Following that success, in early 2025, he authored " From the Ben Hai River to the Independence Palace" —the first battlefield memoir of Major General Hoang Dan. Based on surviving notes, memoirs, and recollections, the book authentically recreates major campaigns, especially the fierce battle in Quang Tri in 1972 and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975.
This is not just a personal memoir, but also a valuable military document, offering insightful perspectives on the mindset of soldiers, tactical decisions, and the losses of war.
Connecting communities through books
Beyond his personal recollections, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien has also contributed to contemporary knowledge with 13 lectures by Professor Tien on management and leadership and the application of AI in businesses. These two books are highly regarded by experts for their concise yet accessible nature, especially for young entrepreneurs seeking direction amidst the wave of digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
Besides writing books, Mr. Tien is also a familiar face in reading inspiration programs and reading promotion talk shows because he particularly values the role of reading and always emphasizes this issue in the seminars where he is a speaker.
He believed that books were the shortest path to success and inspired millions of readers about the importance of learning: "If you want to learn on your own, the first thing you need to do is read books."

Mr. Hoang Nam Tien places particular importance on the role of books and spreading a reading culture among young people.
He didn't just talk; he acted decisively through practical campaigns. At the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, he launched the "Bookshelf for Children on November 20th" program, encouraging people to donate books instead of flowers to teachers, thereby contributing to building school libraries in areas lacking educational materials. For him, "good books are companions and great teachers."
Besides writing books, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien is also considered a "book sales prodigy" as he frequently collaborates with publishers to livestream book introductions. His livestream sessions not only boost sales but also create a powerful ripple effect within the book-loving community.
By the end of 2024, he had sold 1,949 books during his livestream sessions. His expertise, approachable speaking style, and humanistic message gave him a special appeal. The media hailed him as "a phenomenon in the publishing world"—a person who brought books closer to the public, especially young people.
