BTO-UBND Tuy Phong district said that in recent days, due to strong winds and waves, high tides have caused coastal erosion in Phu Tan area, Phan Ri Cua town. The length of the eroded coastline is about 100 meters in front of people's houses and runs through the wall of Ngoc Mai ice industrial park.

Phan Ri Cua Town People's Committee mobilized people and forces of the Commune People's Committee to use sandbags and tarpaulins to reinforce and temporarily overcome landslides and proactively relocate and evacuate people.

However, on May 24, there were consecutive large waves and high tides, which washed away almost all the sandbags, reinforced tarpaulins, and temporary repairs. The People's Committee of Phan Ri Cua town continued to mobilize the people and the forces of the Commune People's Committee to temporarily overcome the consequences of the natural disaster. Up to this point, the coastline continued to erode and became increasingly eroded.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trung Truc - Chairman of Tuy Phong District People's Committee, the locality has directed the district armed forces to support the Phan Ri Cua Town People's Committee to use sandbags and tarpaulins to reinforce and temporarily overcome the landslide. However, this is only a temporary solution. It is forecasted that in the coming days, coastal landslides in this area are at risk of further erosion, possibly causing damage to the structure of local residential technical infrastructure works, seriously affecting the lives, activities and economy of the people.

Tuy Phong District People's Committee added that regarding the connection between the Seawall Project to protect the coast in Phu Tan Quarter, Phan Ri Cua Town and the project land of Ngoc Mai Ice Company Limited, according to the design documents, the seawall project is 1,000m long. Through actual inspection, the project has currently constructed the embankment roof and top wall with a length of 600m (construction time from October 2021). The project is currently suspended due to being entangled with the project land of Ngoc Mai Ice Company Limited, awaiting the settlement of the provincial professional agencies. In the area where construction has not been carried out, during the northeast monsoon season, the southwest monsoon blows strongly combined with high tides, there has been a phenomenon of coastal erosion.

Therefore, in order to protect more than 600 households and the structure of local residential technical infrastructure works from damage, Tuy Phong District People's Committee recommends that the investor (Provincial Management Board of Investment and Construction of Agricultural and Rural Development Works) and related departments and units pay attention to thoroughly resolving the overlapping land between the Coastal Protection Embankment Project in Phu Tan Quarter and the project land. At the same time, promptly deploy the completion of the Sea Embankment Project to put it into use, to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
