VTV.vn - Bitcoin is at risk of recording its sharpest monthly decline since 2022, even as global financial markets have shown signs of recovery.

Bitcoin briefly fell by as much as 3%, to around $62,557/BTC, before narrowing its losses on February 24th. Overall in February, Bitcoin lost approximately 24% of its value, heading towards its sharpest monthly decline since June 2022, and marking its fifth consecutive month of losses. This is the longest losing streak since 2018.

This decline occurred amidst a risk-averse sentiment sweeping global markets, following US President Donald Trump's announcement of plans to raise global tariffs to 15%.

Rachael Lucas, a cryptocurrency analyst at BTC Markets, noted that President Trump's tax increase plan has shaken risky assets in general, and Bitcoin is no exception. According to her, although Bitcoin is considered "digital gold" by many, it is still being traded as a risk asset. As macroeconomic concerns rise, capital flows will shift towards traditional safe havens, and Bitcoin has not yet achieved that status.

Since the massive sell-off began four months ago, a cautious sentiment has prevailed in the cryptocurrency market, causing bitcoin to repeatedly break through several key support levels.

Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at FxPro, said that bitcoin fell below $60,000/BTC in early February 2026, but there is now a fierce tug-of-war around the current price between buyers and sellers, and the final outcome will determine whether the market will see a recovery or continue its downward trend.

In a research report, Tony Sycamore, an analyst at IG Australia, noted that Bitcoin is very close to its 200-week moving average of $58,503/BTC. Whether Bitcoin can maintain above that level will determine the stability of its price. Conversely, if Bitcoin falls below the support zone of $58,000-$60,000/BTC, the market is likely to see a deeper correction.

The entire cryptocurrency market is also under heavy pressure. According to data from CoinGecko, the total market capitalization of this sector evaporated by more than $120 billion in just two trading sessions on February 23-24.
