Nghe An Border Guard built a temporary bridge across the stream for a commune where 5 bridges were washed away by floodwaters, 21 villages are isolated.

After 8 days of flooding, Nhon Mai commune had 5 bridges washed away, and only Border Guard and Police forces were able to reach 21 villages to provide initial support.

Late afternoon of July 28, a group of reporters from Nghe An Newspaper, Radio and Television, with the support of officials from the Nhon Mai Commune People's Committee and the Border Guard Station here, were able to reach Nhon Mai Commune and some isolated villages.

Nhon Mai commune has 160 households whose houses were completely swept away or had to be urgently evacuated; currently, 21 villages are isolated, many of which suffered almost 100% damage, such as Huoi To 2 village, where 12 houses were completely swept away, the Huoi To concrete bridge was swept away, and the Huoi To 2 Kindergarten suffered severe damage that could not be repaired.

Mr. Le Hong Thai - Chairman of Nhon Mai Commune People's Committee said that as of July 29, only commune officials, Border Guards and Commune Police could access the isolated villages.

Due to dangerous landslides, broken and washed away roads, to reach isolated villages, forces had to wade through mud and walk for 5-10 hours to reach the people.

In efforts to help people overcome the consequences, Nhon Mai Border Guard Station has brought food and essential food to relieve hunger, brought gifts (cash) from benefactors to isolated people, and officers and soldiers also built temporary bridges for people to travel within the village.

Five bridges in Nhon Mai commune were swept away by the flood, including: in Nhon Mai village, there is the Nhon Mai Military-Civilian Bridge across Khe Hy; the concrete bridge across the stream in Nhon Mai village and the Nhon Mai suspension bridge; two other bridges also disappeared after the flood: the concrete bridge in Pha Mut village and the concrete bridge in Huoi To 2 village (belonging to the old Mai Son commune).
