Draw lots for the third exam subject to enter grade 10 from 2025
The Ministry of Education and Training is seeking opinions from localities and schools on the Draft Circular amending and supplementing the Regulations on Secondary School and High School Admissions, including comments on the 10th grade entrance exam plan according to the 2018 General Education Program.
Accordingly, regarding the method of admission to grade 10 of high school according to the 2018 General Education Program, the Ministry of Education and Training has proposed a plan for admission and entrance exams.
Specifically, the basis for admission is the training results and learning results of the years of general education program at secondary level or continuing education program at secondary level of the admission subject. If a student repeats a grade, the results of the repeated year of that grade will be used.

Regarding the entrance exam, the plan proposed to solicit opinions from schools and the Department of Education and Training is to organize exams in 3 subjects: Math, Literature and a third subject - randomly drawn by the Department of Education and Training from the remaining subjects in the general education program at the secondary school level.
Thus, the remaining subjects are specifically: Foreign Languages, Natural Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology), History - Geography, Information Technology, Technology...
The time for each exam subject is also specifically regulated: Literature, candidates will take 120 minutes; Math 90 minutes; the remaining exam subjects will not exceed 90 minutes; specialized exam 150 minutes.
The organizers of the draw include leaders of the Department of Education and Training, representatives of the leaders of the departments under the Department, inspectors and other relevant members invited by the Department. The minutes of the draw must be signed by the participating members.
The subjects drawn by lot must be announced before March 31st every year. For admission to specialized high schools, each specialized subject has an additional specialized exam subject.
The exam content is within the secondary school education program, mainly grade 9 program.
Each specialized subject is tested with a separate test according to the subject program in the general education program at the secondary level. However, the test for specialized subjects must ensure the selection of students with talent in that specialized subject.
The 2024-2025 school year is the first year that 9th graders will take the 10th grade entrance exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training have announced the structure and format of the exam for Math, Literature, and Foreign Languages, and Hanoi has created additional sample questions for the integrated subjects of Natural Sciences, History and Geography. In Quang Nam, it is planned to organize an entrance exam with 3 exams of Math, Literature, and Foreign Languages, combined with the review of students' secondary school transcripts.
