On May 15, the Ministry of Education and Training announced standard regulations on university-level semiconductor microcircuit training.
This standard applies to universities participating in the Government's program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050".
Accordingly, candidates who want to study bachelor's or engineering programs in semiconductor microchips, if admitted based on high school graduation exam results, must use a combination of Math and at least one natural science subject suitable for the semiconductor microchip training program.
The total score of the subjects in the admission combination must reach at least 80% of the scale, for example, at least 24/30 for a combination of three subjects. In addition, the Math score must reach at least 80% of the scale, for example, at least 8/10.
For those who have a university degree, they must have a degree appropriate to the training program they are applying for and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.8/4 or higher.
For students studying in another major and transferring to semiconductor microchip at the time of consideration, a GPA of 2.5/4 or higher is required.
For master's degree, undergraduate GPA requirement is 2.8/4 or higher.
Accordingly, there are 38 majors at university level and 37 majors at master's level related to semiconductor microchips, which can participate in training human resources for the semiconductor industry.
The Ministry of Information and Communications calculates that the domestic semiconductor industry needs 10,000 engineers each year, but current human resources meet less than 20%.
Professor Chu Duc Trinh, Principal of the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Chairman of the Advisory Council for developing training program standards for all levels of university education on semiconductor microchips, said that in semiconductor microchip training, it is necessary to ensure high-quality human resources and long-term in-depth thinking, avoiding the problem of short-term training.
In addition to the Math score requirement, the English requirement is also emphasized: "This can be a barrier for schools when participating in training in this field, it is not easy for schools to participate in training", Professor Trinh emphasized.
