(HNMO) - On the evening of May 19, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son sent a telegram to directors of education and training departments on ensuring safety for staff, teachers, students and responding to heat waves at educational institutions.
According to the telegram, in recent times, in the Northern and Central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, there has been a prolonged heat wave, with outdoor temperatures reaching over 40 degrees in some areas; according to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the next few days, the weather will continue to be hot and extremely hot, with some places being especially hot. At this time, educational institutions nationwide are preparing to complete the 2022-2023 school year; 9th and 12th graders are focusing on reviewing for the 10th grade entrance exam and the high school graduation exam.
To ensure the safety of staff, teachers and students, the Minister of Education and Training requested the directors of the Department of Education and Training of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct educational institutions to proactively adjust the school's educational plan, arrange reasonable timetables, and prioritize early morning time slots to organize teaching of subjects and outdoor educational activities. Schools should not arrange for students to participate in educational activities and extracurricular activities during the extremely hot weather.
In addition, schools need to review, repair, supplement, and replace broken electrical equipment such as electric fans, air conditioners, and ventilation fans; increase classroom shielding; open windows to ensure ventilation; increase drinking water for staff, teachers, and students, etc.
Units coordinate with the electricity sector to provide adequate and timely electricity to schools, especially kindergartens and primary schools with boarding and semi-boarding students; coordinate with the health sector to organize propaganda and educate students to take care of their health, ensure proper nutrition and prevent and control epidemics.
The Ministry of Education and Training also requested the directors of the Department of Education and Training to step up propaganda and education to raise awareness among officials, teachers and students about saving electricity; turning off lights and unnecessary devices; coordinating with parents, authorities and local organizations in managing and educating students about drowning prevention, especially in places with potential drowning risks.
