According to the Department of Irrigation ( Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ), the first phase of water supply for the 2025 Spring rice crop in the Northern Midlands and Delta was carried out from 0:00 on January 12, 2025 to 24:00 on January 16, 2025 (a total of 5 days).
After Phase 1, localities continued to take advantage of water collection during the Lunar New Year high tide period and areas with rainfall of 5-50 mm, thus increasing water collection efficiency. Up to now, the total water area in the whole region is 382,641 ha/488,615 ha, reaching about 78%.
The areas without water are mainly concentrated in some areas that often face difficulties, have to supply water through makeshift pumping stations or are affected by saltwater intrusion, so the implementation progress is expected to be relatively slow.
To ensure water for planting and storage for irrigation, the second water intake will be carried out according to Notice No. 9193/TB-BNN-TL of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, starting from 0:00 on February 8 to 24:00 on February 14, 2025 (a total of 7 days).
Hydropower plants will operate at maximum generating capacity about 2-3 days in advance, the flow is maintained at a high level so that irrigation works will have favorable conditions to take water. Depending on the actual progress of water taking, the time to take water can be shortened to save water from hydropower reservoirs.
To ensure effective water supply, the Department of Irrigation requires the Directors of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces and cities (including Hanoi ) and enterprises exploiting irrigation works to direct the maximum operation of irrigation works to complete the provision of enough water for 100% of the cultivated area.
Increase maximum water storage in the system of canals, lagoons, ponds, and low-lying areas for irrigation. Urgently mobilize and guide people to prepare the land and plant early to retain water in the fields. At the same time, organize to strengthen the reinforcement of the banks and plot banks, ensuring against water loss for areas that have been supplied with enough water.
