Located right in front of Al Rahim Mosque on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, a small broken rice restaurant called "Halal Grilled Beef Broken Rice" is a dining place with dishes according to Muslim tastes.
The restaurant sells all kinds of dishes from chicken curry, chicken stewed with duck eggs, beef sausage... but the most famous dish here is grilled beef. If broken rice is normally eaten with grilled pork cutlets, here it is eaten with beef, because Muslims do not eat pork.
It is also because of this special feature that the broken rice restaurant attracts many people to come and eat. Besides Muslim customers, many people come here because of the special delicious flavor of grilled beef.
Broken rice served with grilled beef, "skin" made from chicken, especially the unique dish "tung lo mo"
We stopped by the Halal grilled beef broken rice shop on a weekend afternoon, where Tima and Lyly were grilling fragrant pieces of beef. Right on the charcoal grill, large, round pieces of Chinese sausage and chicken thighs were also just finished grilling.
Halal grilled beef broken rice restaurant is located on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street, right in the center of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
Ordered a portion of grilled beef broken rice and just a few minutes later, I had a plate of rice with hot pieces of beef, drizzled with a little scallion oil, and a bowl of pickled vegetables to eat with. The broken rice portion had loose rice grains, the grilled beef was soft and not dry. The beef here was marinated well, with a salty, sweet, and spicy taste that was easy to eat. Unlike broken rice with pork ribs, the beef was thinly sliced into pieces, and when served to customers, it was cut into bite-sized pieces. The saleswomen at the shop said that when grilling beef, the sauce must be continuously poured on so that the meat does not dry out and still retains its soft, fragrant flavor.
A delicious beef broken rice dish.
Besides grilled beef, other toppings served with rice are also made from non-pork ingredients. Here, you can order dishes such as chicken curry, braised pork with duck eggs, grilled chicken, grilled sausage, egg rolls, pork skin... In particular, while the skin at regular broken rice shops is usually made from pork skin, here it is made from vermicelli, shredded chicken and rice powder. That is why the skin at the shop also has a completely new flavor.
Grilled beef is the most typical dish here.

Chinese sausage is also a favorite dish of many people at this restaurant. This is a sausage made from beef, taken from Chau Doc city, An Giang province. This dish is also known as "tung lo mo", which is a specialty of the Cham people in An Giang . In the Cham language, "tung" means intestines, "lo mo" means beef. "Tung lo mo" is made from pure beef, it must be fresh beef, not mixed with pork fat. To make this dish, the Cham people must use beef intestines on the outside, inside is stuffed with minced beef mixed with special spices. This beef sausage dish is very elaborate and meticulous in preparation. It is best when grilled over hot coals, at that time the sausage will melt fat and be very fragrant.
Beef sausage is also a dish not to be missed when coming here.
The restaurant opened to serve Muslims but "non-Muslim" customers also love it.
This restaurant is located right in front of Al Rahim Mosque on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, District 1. The food counter also has the Halal symbol (Halal means products that are "allowed" and "legal" to use according to Islamic law). Therefore, this is an address that many Muslims visit to eat.

The owner and the vendors at this restaurant are also Muslims. Therefore, the restaurant was opened with the purpose of serving Muslim customers. Ms. Lyly, the vendor here, said that the idea of opening the restaurant came from not seeing anyone selling broken rice without pork in Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition to grilled beef, diners can choose egg rolls, braised chicken with duck eggs, grilled chicken...
It seems that the restaurant only serves Muslims, but many non-Muslims also come here to eat because of the delicious taste of broken rice. Although it has only been open for a few years, the restaurant has many regular customers, including both Muslims and "non-Muslims".
The skin here is made from shredded chicken, vermicelli and rice powder.
Ms. Lyly said: "To have a rich flavor of beef, our family has to marinate it overnight, thanks to which the meat is softer when grilled. Except for the sausage from Chau Doc, our family makes all the other ingredients ourselves."
