Abolish the regulation of 8 points for Math in semiconductor industry

The regulation that candidates applying for the semiconductor microchip industry need to have a high school graduation exam score of 8 points or higher in Math has been replaced by the Ministry of Education and Training with a regulation that "belongs to the group of 20% of candidates with the highest Math scores nationwide".

The Ministry of Education and Training issued a Decision to amend the Standard for training programs on semiconductor microchips at undergraduate and master's levels. Accordingly, candidates applying for majors in the field of semiconductor microchips at bachelor's and engineering levels must have a combination of Mathematics; at least one subject in Natural Sciences suitable for the training program on semiconductor microchips;

At the same time, candidates are in the group of 25% of candidates with the highest scores in the admission subject group nationwide and in the group of 20% of candidates with the highest scores in Math nationwide (according to data published annually by the Ministry of Education and Training).

According to the score distribution announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, the average score of the Math subject in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam of candidates nationwide is 4.78. Of the nearly 1.13 million candidates taking the Math exam in 2025, only 31,404 candidates scored 7.5 to 8 points; 22,328 candidates scored 8 to 8.5 points.

Previously, on May 15, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the standard regulations on semiconductor microchip training at university and master's levels; applicable to educational institutions participating in the program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050" according to Decision No. 1017/QD-TTg dated September 21, 2024 of the Prime Minister .

Accordingly, candidates who want to study bachelor's or engineering programs in semiconductor microcircuits, if they are admitted based on their high school graduation exam results, must use a combination that includes Mathematics and at least one natural science subject that is suitable for the semiconductor microcircuit training program. The total score of the subjects in the combination must reach at least 80% of the scale, for example, at least 24/30 for a combination of three subjects. In addition, the Math score must reach at least 80% of the scale, for example, at least 8/10.
